A lot can happen in sixteen years, especially the first sixteen years directly out of high school. It's likely that in this time, you would gain a wealth of knowledge, insight, and experiences. You'd probably live in a new place and would have progressed well into the person you were destined to become. I can't even say for certain that I would recognize myself or anyone else from around that formative time in my life. Heck, if this worker had had a child somewhere around this time, they would be in high school.
Still, you gotta love a trier—although it's a shame that this employer is probably one of the one's running around telling anyone who will listen that "nobody wants to work" as they scrape the bottom of the employment barrel with uncompetitive wages and undesirable rosters.
This worker, Redditor u/PositiveSunfish, reported that their first employer had called them out of the blue—sixteen years after they had left the job—to offer for them to come back to the role they had held as a high schooler. The worker has, of course, moved on in that time and now manages their own team in a much different area of work.
The post sparked a lot of discussion about the current state of the job market, and readers of the post shared their thoughts in the comments.
