Newly Revealed Marvel Concept Art Tells Us A Lot About The Future Of Their Movie Universe

We're right smack in the middle of Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic strategy. With Captain America: The Winter Soldier releasing in a couple of weeks, ABC aired an hour long special: Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe last night. Not a lot was shown, but some of the concept art is leaving me guessing about the rest of Phase 2 and even a little bit of Phase 3.

  • The Avengers: Age of Ultron

While it's just a standard action picture that looks like it came straight out of Avengers 1, this shot of The Hulk and Black Widow leaves me wondering if they're going to team up in any significant way.

This might be the most exciting piece. It depicts The Hulk going toe-to-toe with Iron Man in his specially designed Hulkbuster Armor. Will Bruce Banner's rampaging green alter-ego be a threat to the team the next time around?

Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, mutants and regular Avengers members (and occasional villains) are somehow caught in a legal neutral zone, which is good for us. Now they'll be portrayed in both Avengers 2: Age of Ultron and X-Men: Days of Future Past. While Marvel has yet to reveal any images of Aaron Taylor-Johnson or Elizabeth Olsen in their respective roles, this concept art revealed last night, makes them look a lot cooler than Evan Peters' version in X-Men (pictured below)

We won't see the full version of Marvel's portrayal until the credits of Captain America: The Winter Soldier
  • Guardians of The Galaxy

These stills from August's Guardians of the Galaxy don't reveal anything new about the universe. What it does do is remind us of just how different this movie is shaping up to be especially in comparison to the other Marvel franchises. Could you ever picture Captain America hanging around a bar (that's Mos Eisley right?) with a gun toting raccoon?
  • Ant-Man

And to wrap it up, here's some stills from some Ant-Man test footage. We have a while to wait on this one, but with Shaun of the Dead director, Edgar Wright at the helm and Paul Rudd starring, this has the potential to be zanier than Guardians.
