At age 14, Aaron Swartz was co-author of the RSS 1.0 specification. He founded a Y-Combinator startup Infogami, which was later merged into Reddit, and for this he is sometimes listed as a third co-founder of Reddit. In 2011, from the MIT campus for a brief period he unintentionally disrupted JSTOR, an online academic publishing service, downloading papers which ought to by right be freely available. His minor transgression brought prosecution by the US Justice Department, indicting him on charges sufficient to imprison him for up to 35 years, terms much longer than those meted out to convicted rapists. Already with a very public history of depression and other maladies, Swartz committed suicide in early 2013.
