Last month, inventor Mike Alt launched a Kickstarter fundraiser for HarvestGeek, a crowdsourced online project that would allow small farmers to not only better monitor their gardens, but to collect environmental data ranging from the air temperature to the amount of light received by the plants, collaborate as a group and remotely control these variables using a highly advanced monitoring device and receive. Alt says his long-term ambition is to challenge the agriculture industry and to make food production in general more sustainable for the future. With 17 days left to go, the project will need to raise at least $11,500 to make it a reality. Hat tip to FastCo.Exist.
