Carson Daly recently caught considerable heat for his anti-gay comments, and now the mother of Mark Bingham, a 9/11 flight 93 hero who happened to be gay, is speaking out about Daly's careless remarks.

Alice Hoagland wrote a letter that reminded The Voice host that while her son was homosexual, he was also known as a tough rugby player who charged the terrorists aboard Flight 93.

"No one among his pick-up team of fellow passengers was asking 'Are you straight? Are you gay?'" wrote Hoagland of the moment he tried to take back control of the aircraft.

"The world has its share of strong, heroic gay men," she added. "Gay men in sports uniforms and military uniforms have been winning America's games and fighting America's battles for a long time: quietly, humbly, and in the face of vicious bigotry."

Bingham's mother concluded by saying that she hoped they would have an opportunity to speak sometime, and that she prefers "to believe you didn't mean to offend."

Yesterday during his radio show, Daly spoke of the recent "medical incident" involving a JetBlue pilot and mockingly suggested that homosexuals would not have been able to subdue the dangerous pilot.

He has since tweeted an apology, and released another statement through GLAAD.
