This is Higgins....Higgins was recently put down after he suffered a stroke...This was my dog for the past 12 years, and he was 22 years old when he died. This dog was more than just my best friend, he was my hero, and my mother's hero. Higgins was a seizure dog, who could sense those who were about to have a seizure. My mother who had epilepsy was walking through a store one day when he started following her, and laid at her feet. That night, she had a seizure, but she had gone to the doctor after hearing that this dog was a rescue dog. We brought him home, and he became more of my own pup and I would go to him when I was scared or when I needed someone to talk to who would listen....He stayed with me for so long, and yet he was growing old, his back legs shook when he walked due to arthritis, but he would still try to follow me around the garden and down the driveway to get the mail. This dog was more than my best friend, he was the only friend I'd ever had for so long. And when we had to make the decision to put him down...everyone looked to me and told me to choose....I decided to put him down not out of my own needs or wants...I did it because I knew he was in pain. And when he went out, he was the happiest dog in the world it seemed....I loved him......and the lesson in this is to love your pets as much as you can, because they stay alive as long as they can for you
