A series of massive earthquakes hit New Zealand this morning, and one YouTube vlogger caught the experience on video.
Omega, a who runs a gaming channel from his home in New Zealand, sat down to record his latest episode, when an earthquake, measuring 7.5 on the Richter Scale, began. Understandably, he seems quite shaken up by the whole experience, but luckily, he was safe.
While the video doesn’t really show the full danger of this earthquake, it was quite severe. This isn’t the first earthquake to hit New Zealand this morning. CNN reported on the series of earthquakes that triggered tsunamis and aftershocks that “left at least two dead.”
“The first event, a 7.8-magnitude quake, struck just after midnight Monday near the coastal community of Kaikoura, some 93 kilometers (55 miles) northeast of the city of Christchurch”
“It triggered waves of 2.49 meters (8 feet) above usual tide levels, the highest he has seen in his 38 years in New Zealand, Philip Duncan of Weather Watch New Zealand said.”
An initial tsunami warning was lifted but temblors continued Monday afternoon. A 6.2-magnitude quake struck around 1:30 p.m. 39 kilometers west-southwest of Kaikoura, further north of Christchurch.”
