Bette Midler doesn't understand why all the new young pop stars are showing so much skin these days.
In a recent interview with The Telegraph, she took a swipe at Ariana Grande about using sex to sell albums.
"It's always surprising to see someone like Ariana Grande with that silly high voice, a very wholesome voice, slithering around on a couch looking so ridiculous. I mean, it's silly beyond belief and I don't know who's telling her to do it," she said.
For context, here is Ariana Grande "slithering" around on stage at the AMAs this past weekend, in case you missed it:
"And now it's whatever you feel like doing you can do. I mean, apparently people really like to pretend they're having sex. They really like to slap each other's butts," Midler also said in the interview.
She's got that right. 2014 certainly was a year filled with butts - we're looking at you Nicki, Kim, Jlo and Iggy.
Ariana responded via Twitter, passive aggressively calling Midler a "sexy mermaid" and wondering where the old Bette went.
Midler finally signaled a truce, with her latest tweet.
And all was well in the world again, except not.
