That sounds logical! We went through a period like that here too, when westward expansion was in full swing and so many people lived in isolated areas far from towns. Bartering was big back then. And women wore those ridiculous long skirts too and worked just as hard as men did, in their own way. Gee, I don't know if I would have survived back then! =)

Now that made me think... Prolly something from a couple of hundred years ago if not further... From the times when working women (in the country at least here in Finland) were also appreciated as good wife material (even when they were a few years older that prospective men). Asking a man during the one day, when you could take things a bit lighter if needs be... At a time when skirts were long and much more ful, so expensive. And some men might have had to buy several women's outfits :p. Retaliation, anyone? Or hiding, anyone? - Which reminds me, I think once upon a time part of wages could be paid in fabric too...

Yesh! Both those dogs were babysat by me and I did the ding in front of either of them once and voila! Instant learning. :) The first time was an accident, the other intentional. The owner of the Cavalier King Charles spaniel wondered why the dog had started klinging her bowls...? My brother had a laughing fit when his toy poodle dinged.
