I hope your dad makes it home this time. I do have places I'd love to visit - Australia, England, Ireland and Switzerland are at the top of my list. Maybe just eastern Canada, which would probably be the most likely. You're right about Chuck not being much for travel so I'd probably have to go with my sis if I did go anywhere. Mostly my traveling is probably just a pipe dream but you never know. Elf is having a very hard time using the litter box this morning. He keeps getting in it and not being able to do anything. I might have to call the vet and make an appointment if this keeps up. He was fine yesterday so I'll give it some more time and see what happens. I hate taking him to the vet, especially if it's not necessary. He just hates going there. Poor little guy.

There was a delay in bringing Dad home. Now they're thinking Tuesday or Wednesday. He's doing okay just a little dehydrated. Do you have any places internationally that you'd want to visit? Chuck doesn't seem like much of a traveler. Am I wrong about that?

By Fauxpaws on Aug 16, 2019 at 2:43 PM

I haven't been keeping up with O-line injuries, or D-line either, for that matter. I see Chuck has a note here with the best O-line on it. I'll have to warn him. Injuries are usually the last things I look at before our draft so that I get the latest updates, and then of course I hope there aren't any more injuries between the draft and the start of the regular season. It really sucks to lose a player you've drafted before things even get started. Our draft is Sunday the 25th. How's your dad? Is he back at home yet? We decided to renew our passports before time ran out, just in case we ever want to travel out of the country again. Today we went and got our new passport photos. Chuck's pic looks like something on a Wanted poster and I look like I'm about 80 years old. Sheesh. Oh well. Probably no one will ever see them.

With the injuries of the last week I place more faith in the Dline than the offense. How's Chuck coming with his draft roster? When is your draft again?

By Fauxpaws on Aug 15, 2019 at 7:26 AM

The Niners D-line isn't ranked very highly in our FF magazine, but I'm betting there will be improvements, especially once they gel and get it all going. Their O-line, on the other hand, looks pretty darn good. It's ranked second only to the Chargers. Jimmy G ought to have plenty of protection and I'm betting he has a a better year than predicted. I'd sure like to get Kittle for our TE again this year but I doubt if we'll be so lucky.

By beckysdad on Aug 14, 2019 at 11:27 AM

It was interesting to watch the Niners second team D-line play against the Dallas starters. I'm anxious to see our front line D. Our Dbacks are still suspect but we really built up the line.

By Fauxpaws on Aug 12, 2019 at 9:58 AM

We only watched the first quarter of the Dallas/Niners game so I was glad to see the Niners won. Your sis should learn to wait until the game's over before she mouths off - or nawt! LOL Glad you're enjoying the book and it was nicely done. I bought a FF magazine a few weeks ago but haven't gotten very far reading it. Chuck's gone through the whole thing. You go, Chuck! I'll catch up in a while.

By beckysdad on Aug 11, 2019 at 1:21 PM

It was fun to watch football last night...even better that the Niners beat Dallas. My kid sister had been mouthing off that blue was going to win...not! But we've been classy and not rubbed her face in it. Matt did a nice job on the book...high quality binding and paper. The content is good too. I'm halfway through the reading. Have you found a reference magazine for your FF or will you wait until closer to the draft?

By Fauxpaws on Aug 9, 2019 at 10:43 AM

PETA whacking - LOL They were a wacky group, hence wackable. I wonder if they're even still around. I'd look it up but I really don't care. They didn't seem to do a lot of good. Ah, the book! How KEWL! That's exciting indeed. It's nice that even though you haven't gotten rain in a long while, at least there's enough in reserve to keep things watered. I need to start concentrating on fantasy football. Our "draft" will be on the 25th this year. Chuck's been studying up but as usual I'll wait until a week or so before the draft. I can remember stuff better that way.

By beckysdad on Aug 8, 2019 at 3:53 PM

Now here's an idea that's a winner...PETA whacking. I would watch that. The book version of Letters to 87 was released yesterday. My copy will arrive tomorrow. I hope Matt did as good a job with the book as the documentary. I'm confident he did. An inch of rain, when not really expected, would be a shock but it could be a nice surprise, too. I can't recall the last time we had rain.

By Fauxpaws on Aug 8, 2019 at 10:20 AM

I doubt if Armadillo whacking would be much more popular than curling. Unless PETA decided to protest. That might draw a crowd. It is a shame about wrestling but you're right - money is the key factor, no doubt. Money (and egos) rule the world. I hope there are no unwelcome surprises next Tuesday. We had a surprising downpour of rain yesterday afternoon after the weather gurus had told us we only had a 20% chance of a light shower. I'm sure we got well over an inch. I was glad to see it. Things were getting way too dry.

By beckysdad on Aug 8, 2019 at 2:19 AM

The update from Mom was just a repeat of the last. I don't think anything momentous will come until next Tuesday when the medical team meets. Maybe Armadillo whacking will be an exhibition sport in the upcoming Olympics. It bothers me that they bring in odd stuff while they got rid of wrestling. I'm not a big fan of wrestling but it was one of the original Olympic sports. I suppose it's a revenue thing...the almighty buck.

By Fauxpaws on Aug 7, 2019 at 11:14 AM

Hopefully you got a good update from your mom. Yep, the older dogs are definitely helping. When they're tired of playful "attacks" from the pups, they let out a subtle growl or two until the pups catch on and run off to play with each other. At least for a while. That's the good thing about getting two puppies - they can keep themselves busy chewing on each other. I saw a couple of armadillos in the front yard this morning, one on each side of the yard. Sis had told me to grab a broom and whack them with it until they left. By the time I got out there with my broom they were already waddling away - slowly. I didn't get close enough to whack either one but I did make enough noise that they each picked up the pace somewhat to a faster waddle. They were actually kinda cute in their own frumpy way.

By beckysdad on Aug 6, 2019 at 3:29 PM

I'm sure the older dogs are helping with the training. They're usually good with settling and organizing the pack...and communicating boundaries for youngsters. It will be interesting to hear Mom's update this evening. She comes to "absolute conclusions" before she has all the facts. She's just desperate to try and control things.

By Fauxpaws on Aug 6, 2019 at 5:17 AM

That was some wise advice you gave to your mom and it seems to have helped. Ask and, who knows, you just might receive. Ah Teresa! She's been a busy woman this year. And a huge help. Sis is making progress with the new pups but she has a way to go yet. I think by October things should be at least somewhat calmer. I can't wait to see them.

When I spoke with Mom yesterday morning she was awfully gloomy. She'd had a bad night and was downbeat about the rehab they moved Dad to. She was tired and hadn't really given the place a chance. My marching orders for her going into the day was to look for solutions rather than problems. When I spoke with her last night things were much brighter. She'd learned about their PT room and program. They made more room for her in the room so she could sit on a side chair to visit with Dad rather than having to just sit on the edge of the bed. She ended the day with hope that this place could work and prep him to come home. Teresa will likely come down to stay for a few days when Dad does come home to help get them settled. Your sister should have a grand time assimilating the new mutts into the pack. An October visit for you will be lots of fun.

By Fauxpaws on Aug 4, 2019 at 10:50 AM

No news was probably good news yesterday - they got your dad moved, your mom spent the afternoon there and then went home to bed and got a good night's sleep. My sis adopted two puppies Friday, a brother and sister. The shelter was looking for someone to foster them and that was her original intention - until she saw them. She knew once she had them for a while she'd want to keep them so just went and ahead and adopted. They're mutts, Maltese and something else and cute as they can be. They're driving her 2 older dogs nuts of course, but are learning the meaning of growls and to keep the playing between themselves, for the most part. I'll probably go visit her in October - should be fun.

By beckysdad on Aug 3, 2019 at 9:25 PM

That's the sort of church I could get behind. I haven't heard from Mm tonight but the plan was to move Dad to a rehab this afternoon. The expectation is he'll be there 7-10 days.

By Fauxpaws on Aug 3, 2019 at 11:11 AM

I would expect nothing less from your mom. You're right though, she'll no doubt sleep better at home in her own bed. Beautiful day today. It's still hot of course, but the humidity level is down. I had a nice time watering plants outside this morning. No coyotes, no armadillos, just birds and chippies and me. It's my version of going to church. =)

By beckysdad on Aug 2, 2019 at 12:24 PM

You can be sure that Mom will be keeping an eye on him. She's spent days with him and has been sleeping mostly at the hospital. If they send him to the rehab I think they will she'll be there all day but won't be able to spend the night. That's a good balance as she'll really be able to get some sleep at night.

By Fauxpaws on Aug 2, 2019 at 10:35 AM

Too bad they couldn't have discovered the blood infection before they let him go home. At least they have the right antibiotic. Rehab seems like the right place - just have to wait and see for how long. Easier on your mom, but she might miss having him at home where she can keep an eye on him. Tough thing to have to go through either way.

By beckysdad on Aug 2, 2019 at 6:33 AM

Well, they identified the bladder infection and then later discovered a blood infection so they brought him back to the hospital. Fortunately the antibiotic they have him on is the right one for this strain as well. I think the current plan is to get him a bit stronger and release him to a rehab so he can gain more strength in a supervised environment. I don't know if this is going to turn into a more long term situation. I think it's going to be easier on Mom. Sigh...

By Fauxpaws on Aug 2, 2019 at 4:42 AM

I'm not even sure those coyotes heard me up on the balcony, to be honest. If it happens again I'll grab a pitcher of water and dump it on 'em - see if that gets their attention. I don't think coyotes eat armadillos. Maybe if they're desperate, but it's pretty hard to get around those shells to get to any meat. And no, Chuck doesn't have a recipe, smarty pants. =) I don't think humans eat them either. I'm sure I won't. Bleh. Glad they found your dad's problem and he's home again. I hope things will be a little easier for your mom now.

By beckysdad on Jul 31, 2019 at 5:04 PM

I'd imagine the coyote band is ready to move on when they find the humans are stirring. That would be odd to hear the howling so close. Maybe they were looking for an armadillo snack. I don't know how much meat is on them... being there in the South Chuck probably has a recipe for them. Ah, stereotypes...the crutch of the intellectually lazy. Dad is back home. Turns out he had a bladder infection. Mom is happy to have him home and she's hoping things might return to whatever normal is now.

By Fauxpaws on Jul 31, 2019 at 11:46 AM

I'm glad they didn't find any problems with your dad. I hope he's better when he gets home. I'm sure it's frustrating for you, not being able to help more. Our roving pack of coyotes decided to party right under our balcony around 5 this morning. Yipping and yelping and howling loud enough to wake the dead. It's really kinda creepy to listen to, especially that close. I finally went out and made some noise of my own and they moved on. It took Elf about an hour to settle down, poor little guy. No more armadillo sightings at least. Maybe they moved on as well.

By beckysdad on Jul 30, 2019 at 7:29 PM

Dad has been in the hospital a couple of days. Mom had him transported to the ER after a stretch went where he refused to eat or drink. They haven't found anything in any of the tests but he's pretty weak. He's supposed to come home tomorrow. I wish I could be more help but I've got my hands full. Yeah, I'm a fan of keeping pets indoors at night. They're part of the family and we should want them near and protected. I guess there are lots of situations that people deal with where they make compromises. Bird flipping met extinction with me as well. One never knows how people will react. I usually go with a passive aggressive shake of the head but even something mild like that can spark a reaction that makes no sense. I just prefer to ignore and lay low most of the time.

By Fauxpaws on Jul 30, 2019 at 11:50 AM

I never liked crowds either, but these days I would avoid them like the plague. Then again, you could just be walking down the street and run into violence. Or in your car and and inadvertently piss off some wacko driver. I sure don't flip anybody the bird any more when I'm driving. Sounds like people where you live need to keep their pets inside at night, too. I sure wouldn't want to come across a hungry mountain lion. I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I've thought about your parents a lot in the past year, especially your mom. She's a champ. I know you feel pretty helpless but having someone to unload on is still a big help, and she's got you and your siblings and her church pals to get her through. That goes a long way.

By beckysdad on Jul 30, 2019 at 6:07 AM

It's pretty amazing that I've never been to the Garlic Festival with my love of garlic. It's less than 30 miles away but I just hate the crowds. The random nature of this violence is what really makes it scary. One thinks that living clean and staying away from "dangerous places" will insulate one from bad stuff. I guess I'm influenced by the vet shows I watch like Dr. Pol. It seems like dogs are forever getting into trouble with porcupines and I assume that anywhere folks are dealing with wildlife are exposed to all species. I think of San Jose as pretty urban but we get possums, raccoons and the occasional mountain lion or coyote. The foothills are only about five miles or less from here so the critters get to wandering and mischief at night. I'm waiting to hear from Mom. She had Dad at the ER yesterday afternoon and evening...maybe into the night. Dad was being obstinate and wouldn't eat or drink. She was worried about what that could spin into if he persisted. She didn't call me until about 9pm and didn't want to "bug me". Sigh...she's really got her hands full these days and I can't really be any help except to listen to her frustrations. All things considered, we've been pretty fortunate but this is a difficult phase.

By Fauxpaws on Jul 30, 2019 at 5:18 AM

Thankfully we don't have porcupines here. Seems like we've got every other creature you can have tho. It wouldn't surprise me to see a black bear one of these days. The armadillo holes aren't really that bad. They're shallow and about 5-6" in diameter so you can easily spot them. This morning I noticed they had dug up my recently planted azalea, however, and that irritates me no end. Terrible what happened in Gilroy. Have you ever been to that festival?

By beckysdad on Jul 27, 2019 at 10:49 PM

Tacky indeed. Ya gotta go with your strengths and I've long been tacky. Armadillos, eh? I guess most critters are content to be left alone. I'd take armadillos over skunks, coons or certainly porcupines. Don't trip in any of those holes. That could be dangerous. I'm finally off to bed. Chat with you tomorrow.
