I've had quite a few black cats too. Kira was my first cat. Ummm..... Tiny, Fuzzy, Grover. And now Pico.

It is the same at the animal shelters around here. They won't adopt out black cats in October. I have a long history with black cats. When I was little, I was allergic to cats. When I visited my grandparents, there was a black cat who always hung around. Even though I would start sneezing, coughing and get watery eyes, I would pet him anyway because he was so lovable. The first cat I ever had when I was 17 was a black cat. So, I just always had a love for them. I enjoy yours too! I see that you also dislike the whole basement-ceiling cat thing. Black cats still have trouble getting adopted more than any other and I just don't like people adding to the whole evil black cat thing.
