Ohai again! Shadow was a girl kitteh who joined our family when a neighbor moved away and could not take the kitteh along with her. We had just inherited our other cat (LittleBits, the stripey tuxedo kitteh) when my wife's mom passed away; so we took in Shadow too. The two kittehs were each about 2-3 years old when we got them, and in more than a decade they never really got along very well (both neutered females, their personalities seemed to clash), but we all managed. Shadow developed diabetes and took insulin shots for almost two years without complaining; I'll miss the way she bossed me around when she wanted skritches and attention...

Ohai again! I'm not sure how long the collectibles thing will be going on. They change the particulars from time to time but the general idea will probably be continuing until they have some reason to stop. Silly but harmless. Not everybody is paying any attention to the things and it's no big deal if one doesn't. One usefulness is that, by sneaking a look at our friends' "collectibles" list, we can get an idea as to whether they've been on the site in recent months or not. (If somebody has quit visiting, they won't have any of the more recent collectibles--and probably won't see a message if we leave one.)
