littleAPC I've got my father's old bird book, and I cherish it as well. Birds of Europe, so naturally I didn't get beyond 'some type of jay' going by silhouette alone.

Had to get my water gun out and squirt the dang black skwerl! He was hangin on the suet feeder. It has small holes so he can’t get lots but don’ wants him around the feeders.

Steller’s Jay! I thinks. This bird book has no cover and pages are coming loose. But refuse to get rid of it. It belonged to Scott’s parents and they wrote the dates and place beside the pic of the bird whenever they spotted it. Scott and I carried on the tradition.

That looks a lot like a blue jay or in that family. Got to see if I can find it in my old bird book.

I just downloaded a picture of a similar bird, but the one I'm seeing is blue black so at first I thought it was a crow, then I saw the head crest.

*Waves to birdie friends* Lately I've been seeing a dark blue bird of a kind I've never seen here. Looks like a cardinal but blue. I'll try to find a pic of one.

Now you got me worried, Wally. The levee was supposed to protect Nyawlins too. I'm gonna round up a bunch of empty wine bottles from around the ComfeeSofa and build you a raft. ( Seriously, stay safe and keep the Weather Channel on for any alerts- you know we need you 'round here! )

Rain, rain, and more rain here! The Mississippi is very high, and we have flood warnings for low areas. The backwater is already in some places. The levee is our protector. Typical conditions that we have every Spring. I talked to Carol last night. She's doing okay. Y'all take care. Love and hugs, everybody.

when I lived in Buffalo Creek, the land across from mine was covered in them and therefore I kept getting them. Started doing this and went from SOLID thistles to NONE by the 3rd year. And since the chlorine did not get into the ground, there was grass and wildflowers. :)

Yes, I know I haven t been here in forever. I love and miss you guys. Since we've talked about weed killers, I have a surefire trick for russian thistles. (For areas nearby that are threatening to invade your yard- you probably wouldn't let yours get big enough... All that's required is bleach and scissors. (Depending on how steady your hands are.) Once the plant is flowering, cut the flower off and pour bleach down the hollow stem. the plant dies, but breaks down the chlorine before it enters the soil.
