The trends are constantly changing and, whether we like to admit it or not, it is the youths who decide what is in and what is out. In middle and high school you can see the trends directly manifested into friend groups, and it is only natural that those groups are ever-changing. Some cliques remain forever, like stoners and nerds, but many other styles, like emo, scene, and punk can only be found in 90's coming-of-age movies or in expensive 'vintage' shops residing in gentrified neighborhoods. Only those who have the budget have the power to revive them.
If you're also curious about what trends divide the youths today this Reddit thread has got you covered.
Reddit user u/intervertedparadX asked the teachers of Reddit to share what the new student friend groups are these days in grade school. It's weird how cliques are so distinct in high school, then once you go to college the lines start to blur a little, and then by the time you're a full-fledged adult it doesn't really matter whether you were on the chess team or cheer squad.
This is definitely something new. Nowadays everyone tries to build themselves a platform. 5 years ago, though, it wasn't so different. The apps are just different now. People used to get famous over Tumblr and Instagram, and nowadays the thing is TikTok and Youtube. Also throwback to when Youtube was uncool, now you can be a full-fledged Youtube star!
