Phobias come in all shapes and sizes. Some may be more rational than others, but rationality is a relative concept. For example, someone with a fear of Giraffes, despite never having met one in real life, might see their phobia as totally rational. But someone else, who fell off a ladder and now has a fear of heights, might see the Girrafe phobia as irrational because it isn't based on anything. But regardless of how objectively rational or irrational the fear is, for the person experiencing it, it is very, very real.
