There's something that is just so incredibly fascinating about intelligent animals. Take the recent obsession people have had with "My Octopus Teacher" as being a prime example of that.
"My Octopus Teacher" went a little too hard on the anthropomorphization of the octopus' behavior for my taste and didn't really focus all that much on the actual behavioral biology that was at play. But everything surrounding the film really just does highlight how eager we are to see ourselves in the natural world and feel a connection to something.
I myself have experienced this while watching the amazing Kea at work. When you watch them curiously investigating the world around them and wrestling with one another you begin to draw lines between their behavior and our own. You feel drawn to them in a way that you aren't with less intelligent species.
Pakastekaappihomo's description of the differences between the intelligence of the New Caledonian Crow and Kea, while not entirely accurate, gives us a delightful insight into the sensation that is these two incredibly intelligent species.
