Taylor Swift's Exes Ranked Based On The Songs She Penned About Them

  • 3. Joe Jonas

Jonas and Swift dated in the summer of 2008 when they were just wee little teenagers. Most of the songs about Jonas can be found on her albums "Fearless" (Taylor's Version) and "Speak Now". First up is "Forever and Always" and let me just say that 15 year old me was vibing to this song. An accurate representation of me singing to the lyrics: "It rains when you're here and it rains when you're gone/ 'Cause I was there when you said, 'Forever and Always'":

  • Last year she released a never-heard-before song called "Mr. Perfectly Fine", and who exactly is this mister? Joe Jonas, of course! Honestly, it's a crime this song never made it on the album. Such a bop. Swift sings about how angry she is that he seems to be so unaffected by their breakup, while she is completely heartbroken. Relatable AF.  Other songs that Jonas spanned are "Last Kiss" and "The Story of Us''.  Fast forward a few years to her song "Invisible String" from "Folklore" (2020): "Cold was the steel of my ax to grind for the boys who broke my heart, now I send their babies presents''. We know this is a reference to Joe because he had just had a baby with his wife, Sophie Turner. And that line is some TEAAA, ya'll.

  • 2. Harry Styles

Swifties know that Styles inspired the majority of her hit album "1989". I mean, she literally named one of the songs, "Style". Very subtle, T. This top-tier pop song is about someone that always comes in and out of your life and I'll never get over how Swift manages to articulate this universal feeling of a situationship into the words "we never go out of style".  Her songs about Harry aren't necessarily about heartbreak, but more about how it felt to be in a relationship she describes as shaky, unstable, and uncertain ("Out Of The Woods", exhibit A).

  • There is also "Wildest Dreams", in which Swift sings about a relationship she goes into knowing that it won't last. It has a sexy, dreamy, vibe to it and I am obsessed. Plus it is so. damn. relatable. Yes, I know I say this about every song of hers, but that really is the beauty of her music.

  • 1. Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal and Swift's relationship resurfaced after she released her re-recorded version of "Red" in November of 2021. It is widely believed that many of the songs on "Red", and in particular, "All Too Well" are inspired by their short-lived romance in 2011. "All Too Well" is the mother of all breakup songs, especially the 10-minute version, which is top-tier.

  • But for those of you who are unaware, "All Too Well" has a cult-like status in the Swift fandom and there is an overwhelming consensus that it is her best-written song. it truly is a masterpiece (I could write a whole dissertation about this song). And for that, Jake Gyllenhaal is in first place. And of course, I'd be remiss if I did not mention the title track - "Red", the color Swift uses to represent the emotions she experienced when dating Gyllehaall:  fast, passionate, intense, and all-consuming.  Also, the way she absolutely roasts him in "I Bet You Think About Me"?! I live for it.
