Font - Dr Susannah Lydon ... @susieoftraken So last night we went to eat at a pub, and the young woman serving us said to me "Can I ask you a weird question?". The only answer you can ever give to that question is "Of course..." "Did you come to my school when I was little and show me dinosaur poo?" 1/3 1:50 PM · Apr 9, 2022 - Twitter for Android 5,021 Retweets 609 Quote Tweets 81.3K Likes

Goodness, this encounter could have gone in so, so many different directions. The fact that it went into the direction of dinosaur poop… is somehow horrific and wholesome at the same time. We can only imagine how this would have gone had you not been the correct person. "Dinosaur poop"- excuse you?

Font - Dr Susannah Lydon @susieoftraken Outreach work such as visiting primary schools is not really valued in UK universities & at least part of that is that you can't slap a simple metric on the outcome. There is simply no way I can measure the long-term impact I have on a class of 5 year olds. 2/3 1:50 PM · Apr 9, 2022 - Twitter for Android 522 Retweets 16 Quote Tweets 31.8K Likes

Font - Dr Susannah Lydon .. @susieoftraken But for this young woman, my session on fossils is part of the set of experiences she carries around in her head with her all the time. It clearly had an impact. It is worth doing these things and they do have an impact, and I don't care that we cannot measure it. 3/3 1:50 PM - Apr 9, 2022 - Twitter for Android 1,125 Retweets 43 Quote Tweets 58K Likes

We do personally wish that kids would be more educated about animals - and we mean both wild animals and domesticated ones. If people knew more about cats, they would probably stop thinking that they are aloof and unfeeling. If they knew more about the things that go on in corporate massive farms… maybe something would be done to change some of those practices.

Font - Ana B stands with Ukraine ... @BolynAna Replying to @susieoftraken I lived for these random presentations in school. How am I gonna know if I like anything unless some completely random academic shows up to break up the monotony of my day with aniche presentation? 7:13 PM Apr 9, 2022 - Twitter for Android 200 Retweets 7 Quote Tweets 10K Likes

Font - Brian King ... @KingOrleans Replying to @BolynAna and @susieoftraken Will never forget the man who came to show us the big snake that then wrapped itself around his neck. Inspired me for life with a strong determination to avoid snakes at all costs. Very valuable for my education 9:49 PM - Apr 9, 2022 - Twitter for Android 88 Retweets 4 Quote Tweets 5,495 Likes

Font - Jane Cook ... @jmwatkinscook Replying to @susieoftraken I went to a tiny primary school in 1959 and someone came in to talk to us about dinosaurs and fossils. Geological time. I remember holding a big perfect ammonite. I eventually found my way to open university and did study archaeology | 5:38 PM - Apr 9, 2022 · Twitter Web App 40 Retweets 3,517 Likes

Font - Rodger Kibble @rodgerkibble Replying to @jmwatkinscook and @susieoftraken When I was at primary school someone came to visit and taught us a mnemonic for the geological epochs that started "Camels ordinarily sit down carefully ..." I can still recite it to this day. 6:33 PM - Apr 9, 2022 - Twitter for Android 24 Retweets 2 Quote Tweets 1,389 Likes

Font - Sonny Knuckles @SonnyKnuckles Replying to @susieoftraken This is what those who push testing agendas in education do not understand. Teaching is not always about immediate results. Instead, much of it is planting seeds. 10:47 PM Apr 9, 2022 - Twitter Web App 224 Retweets 10 Quote Tweets 4,821 Likes

Font - Liza Radley @panistroglodyte Replying to @susieoftraken I took part in some tree planting about 12 years ago and we let a little lad of 4/5 years old 'help' with the digging. His mum told me last year it's one of his favourite childhood memories. 6:18 PM - Apr 9, 2022 · Twitter Web App 36 Retweets 2 Quote Tweets 1,663 Likes
