"College was the best part of my life" is a sentiment often expressed by weepy alumni. It can put a lot of pressure on current college students to have the best time ever because college is supposedly the best part of their lives. I sometimes wonder whether college was the best part of my life, and I must answer that with a decisive no. For me, college was where I had insanely high highs and devastatingly low lows. I made best friends and mortal enemies. I took the best and worst classes ever put into a classroom. I experienced such a broad spectrum of human emotion that could only be produced on the unique space of the college campus. Now don't get me wrong, I loved college. But I cannot begin to entertain the idea that I was at my best as a human being when I was 19. There's just no way.
