For this week's challenge, in honor of Halloween being a mere few days away, we decided that it was only right to give love the iconic black cats. You know what infuriates us? No matter what we do, people still believe the myths about black cats. We have created whole black cat appreciation collections. We have shown you just how beautiful black cats can be. We have put together a massive collection of hissterical black cat memes to make all the haters laugh uncontrollably - all in an attempt to prove, once and for all, that black cats are not bad luck.
And yet… some people still think so. So, we have decided to go to you guys - because no one has better stories than you - and asked you to tell us the very best things about black cat ownership. And we believe that, after reading this, all people would be convinced that black cats are purrfect.
"He makes me smile every single day...of course, he also makes me scream on the daily, but he's cute so that helps."
"I don't have a cat-companion, but this is my nephew's Lyla. Now that she has tolerated my presence when I fed her for a week, she allows this lowly one to server her & pet her now. Lyla rules the 3rd floor of their house & my sister's 2 cats occupy the rest of the house. I won her trust when I ran off one of the other cats that had invaded her territory. We peasants do what we must to express our loyalty to our queen."
"Loki always has to be first when entering or exiting a room. He'll even keep looking behind himself to make sure you're still following him. He also steals carrots from the guinea pigs..."
"This is Malachi aka "Halloween Boy". He's an absolute treasure. I love having black cats because they're just like me: I've always been an outcast and no one has wanted me and that's how it is for black cats too. We're two peas in a pod. Malachi is an especially wonderful black cat as he is gentle to a fault and is kinder than any human has ever been to me. I cherish this boy so, so much. He is an absolute angel. No one wanted him but when he found my family he was instantly wanted and loved beyond belief. He was a stray kitten that came to our house one summer evening very much emaciated and when we fed him he thanked us by showering my mom and I with affection. And he never has been anything but loving. He is approaching his 18th birthday and is just as wonderful as he was the day he found us. We wanted to protect him from cruel humans who would do unspeakable things to him on Halloween and he has never stopped thanking us. It is a huge honor to be his human."
"My Toothless is an absolute cuddle bug! As a kitten she learned that my alarm meant I'd get up put on my work uniform and leave. So she started coming and laying on me for cuddles when the alarm went off. When she did this for a solid week I set the alarm back 19 minutes to let her think she was keeping me there extra. She then started laying on my uniform shirt after I pulled it out to get dressed, so I had to pick her up for a hug to get it back lol."
"Mine is such a sweet and loving little man. Most cuddly cat I've ever owned. He does, however, have a habit of dropping random objects in the dog's water bowl."
"We lost our Halloween kitty a couple of weeks ago (16 years old, and chronic kidney disease), but here he was in full vampire mode."
"This is Aïda. She is extremely affectionate and loves physical contact with humans. She sleeps with us and leans against me as I sleep. As this happens, this 8 pound cat pushes me off the bed."
"I didn't like cats till we got Journey (black) he's my best friend in a furry body. He's more affectionate then any other cat. He curls up and sleeps right next to me at night. Loved him so much we got him a little brother."
"We have 2 'Minions of Darkness'... Bob (he has a bobbed tail!) and Squirt. They are both rescues and about a year apart in age. Bob likes to make sure his humans are well fed, since we obviously don't know how to hunt, and Squirt is just plain adorable! He refuses to eat anything except for roasted chicken from the store!"
"My outside black cat, Shug. She popped up last year around Halloween and I started feeding her. She was feral and would hiss at me. Now she's rubbing against my legs. She's still very skittish, but she's trusting me more and more.
And she doesn't mind bunnies"
"Bean has the most intense purr, it's not loud, just a very deep, intense rumble. He is also the only cat to follow me to the bathroom just to play in my pants. And I'm the only human he does it to!
He head bonks if you aren't paying attention to him. Bean was NOT happy to be rescued (he was found orphaned with his brother Cheezit), he had to be purritoed to be fed at first but food won him over. He gets growly about noises from outside - lawnmowers, the school bus, the trash truck, etc… even though none of these things have ever hurt him.
He has a soul patch, a white thong bikini, and a few white armpit hairs!"
"I've had many cats over my lifetime, and currently have 5 but this black baby is our newest love. She makes the cutest squeeky noises as she walks around, I think because she's basically invisible and wants to be sure we see her"
"They're only 5.5 mo old, but I've fostered them, their 3 other siblings, and their momma since they were 5 weeks old. I foster failed them both, and 1 other brother! L is female, R is male). They are so loving, and funny, and both bring us so much joy every day. They are our 10 year old white cat's minions, and they love him.
JJ (f) is always the 1st to greet you, and is the most vocal. Fletch (m) has learned how to get up on our bar to the counter (via bar stool) and will look at you when busted like "WHOOPS!""
"Crafty (full name: Henrietta Paws "H.P." Lovecraft) is a very sweet and very smart girl. She does not like being cold, so she will burrow under the covers anytime she decides it's too chilly for her liking. She'll sleep under the blankets, just like a little person, with her head out."
