Trigger warning: Miscarriage
Family names are super important to some people to pass down to their children. A family name represents heritage while also honoring your loved ones, but is it worth torturing your living family for the sake of the rights to a name? One man recently just found out how far his sibling was willing to go just so that they could make a grab for the family name, throwing his family's agony back in his face.
u/Patient-Ad8524 a married man in his early 30's recently celebrated the pregnancy of his dear wife, Pam. Excited for the first grandchild in the family, they discussed using their grandma's name to honor her legacy: Victoria. A few short weeks after they announced their pregnancy to the family (as well as their excitement to use the name), Patient's sister Layla announced that she and her husband were pregnant as well! Jokingly, they laughed about how the older brother beat her to the grandma's name, but they were happy to be pregnant at the same time.
Late in their pregnancy, Pam, OP's wife suffered a late-stage miscarriage, and gave birth to a stillborn child.
Horrified and sad, the two alienated themselves from the family for several weeks after burying Victoria. However, Patient's sister was still pregnant and nearing the end of her pregnancy, so when it came time for her gender reveal, the sorrowful husband and wife were invited to attend. Little did they know, they would be completely sideswiped by grief when, during the reveal, pink balloons and a huge "Baby Victoria" banner waved in their faces.
Patient's sister blatantly stole the name of their d3ad child because apparently it was up for grabs now. Patient snapped on his sister and made a huge scene at the gender reveal after Pam ran away in tears. Frankly, is a name worth ruining the life of a sibling and SIL? Definitely not.
