And yet, despite how much people hear about what not to do at these kinds of events, people tend to ignore this very simple advice anyway!
This Redditor found himself completely cast aside and ignored at a dinner party by an "ecocentric actress" who kept making a fuss at the table about how she desperately needed to meet a movie producer. What she did not realize, of course, was that she was actually sitting next to one and was treating him as if he were invisible. Clearly, she made an assumption based on his look and behavior that he was unimportant. Here is an example of how these kinds of pointless judgments can lead to a ton of regret. By the end of the evening, OP made it clear exactly who he was and how he could have helped the lady if she acknowledged his existence.
