I recently went to see Deadpool and Wolverine in the cinema and had I suddenly realized why GenX love these characters so much. There is no doubt 80s (and also 90s) kids love the Wolverine, but it seems like Deadpool has become very popular in our demographic, even though his humor and sensibilities are more in line with those of a 13 year old boy. So why do we like these characters so much? Because they ARE us.
We have the rough and indestructible Wolverine who just wants to be left alone, but god help anyone who messes with him, and then we have the wisecracking, sarcastic, irreverent and equally indestructible Deadpool, who doesn't take anything serious, refuses to grow up and seems to just want to have fun, even if it's in the expense of the entire world (Just not at the expense of people he loves). Sounds familiar?
