For some people birthdays are a big deal. We all know someone who has a whole birthday month, or birthday week instead of celebrating on one day. In a way, I can understand that. At least if you want to do a big thing with a bunch of friends, but separately with just your close girlfriends, or another celebration with just family or your partner. In a way I can understand separating these events, as long as you don't run your friends dry with activities that span a week. Some people prefer to do nothing, or an unplanned evening of dinner and drinks with their closest friends. No matter what you choose for your birthday, it's completely up to you and no one should take away your agency. Sometimes, other people make a birthday about themselves and not the birthday girl or boy.

In the story below, the narrator is having a birthday and she just wants all her closest friends and partner there. She didn't want a big party, and she even got a reservation at her favorite restaurant. When her boyfriend arrives, he has three friends she's never met stringing along behind him.

What gets me is not even that he necessarily brought his friends uninvited and unannounced. It’s the fact that he tells her she ruined her own birthday when all she did was leave early. She even paid for everyone! Let us know in the comments if you would also walk out like she did.
