According to an Age of Empires support page, Games for Windows Live will cease to exist on July 1, 2014. IGN reached out to Microsoft for a statement and got this vague response:
Yesterday, an Age of Empires support web page communicated that the free to play Age of Empires Online will be discontinued on July 1, 2014. We believe in Windows/PC gaming and have long-term plans to grow our support. We expect there to be transitions as we build out new investments, but we remain committed to bringing first party gaming services and games to Windows for years to come. We will share more details in the future.
The Batman: Arkham games have already dropped Games for Windows Live, and a simple Steam updateremoves the service entirely. However, that update comes with a price; getting rid of Windows Live means all your save files will be deleted.
Losing saves sucks, but, doesn't matter; got rid of GfWL. How do you feel about the death of Games for Windows Live?
