Sorry, Bill, couldn't resist the Rod McKuen crack! Considering I was forced to read what is considered the greatest literature in the English language, I have earned the right to read whatever dreck I wanna! Said dreck, however, does NOT include Mr. McK. If I read contemporary poetry, I grab Maya Angelou! She is practically a poetry deity! BTW, it's gonna hit freezing tomorrow. So much for "sunny Miami!" Love, Judy ;3
By WilliamKeckler on Jan 2, 2012 at 7:57 AM
Rod McKuen? I'm calling the Vatican. We're going to need an exorcism.
By Amber27 on Jan 2, 2012 at 12:32 AM
No fear? Here, here! Ah, c'mon. It's almost 3:30 in the a.m. here. At this hour, you're not gettin' Rod McKuen, let alone William friggin' Shakespeare! ;3 P.S. Still blows my mind that it's 2012. Shouldn't we have Jetson cars??
By WilliamKeckler on Jan 1, 2012 at 8:25 PM
Lol @ your funny message filled with phobias. Likewise for you...a great year without fears, irrational or otherwise.
By Amber27 on Jan 1, 2012 at 4:01 PM
Oh, wow! I so totally relate to the ladder example! I've been acrophobic since I was really little, which is weird since I spent my first 5 1/2 years living on the 11th floor of a NYC apt building. My mom doesn't like heights either, so maybe it's genetic. Funny thing: one of my favorite Hitchcock movies is "Vertigo" and that didn't freak me out at all. As for clowns, they never affected me one way or the other. Also have a bit of arachnophobia, but not as bad as it was. When we first moved to Miami in 1955, our area was infested with Black Widows. One of our neighbors ended up in the hospital after he was bitten. Fortunately they're pretty shy and cleared out quickly. Only the really big ones moving in my general direction bother me now. Hope this year has minimal contact with oceans, clowns, tall buildings, and arachnids! Love, Judy ;3

Oh..and Happy New Year to You and Yours...if i failed to say it yesterday. I'm Mr. Short Term Memory.
By WilliamKeckler on Jan 1, 2012 at 2:17 PM
Well, I must an all around wussy. Cuz I also share your fear of heights. Isn't it funny how when you see someone standing on the fourth run up a ladder they don't look up high at all. But when you STAND ON THE FOURTH RUNG OF THAT LADDER and look down it looks like certain death. If so, you're a..what is it? acrophobic? acrophobiac? I think it's acrophobia. if i'm remembering my Latin root right. I can never remember the one for "fear of clowns" and I see it even in captions on here.

OMG, Bill! That's what happens when I forget to proof read! To rephrase: I was six mths preggers when we took our first cruise! BTW, I do respect that you're not comfortable on the ocean. With me it's heights. There is not enough money in the world to get me to stand on the ledge of that 140 story building in Dubai like Tom Cruise in "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol!" Great flick, BTW, but I practically needed Depends to get thru those scenes! The happiest of New Years to you & yours! Love, Judy ;3

Judy, when I first read your first sentence I was taken aback "The first time I cruised, I got a pregnant and got a little freaked out..." Then I realized you were talking about ships. Whew! Thanks for the attempt to walk me mentally through fearlessness of ocean. It was a nice gesture. I bet you'd make a great Lamaze instructor. And Happy New Years to You and all Your'n. :-)
By Amber27 on Dec 30, 2011 at 2:33 PM
I understand. The first time I cruised, I got a pregnant and got a little freaked out when I realized there was nothing around except water. Then my husband and father-in-law took a walk with me around the deck and talked about "adjusting to the rhythm of the cruise." I've never forgotten the phrase. By lunch time I started feeling much more comfortable. Felt even better after a nap, afternoon "tea," shopping in the stores, dinner, a show, and the Midnight Buffet! That was almost 27 years ago on the old Norway. I'm not a big beach person, but love the water if it's not above my shoulders. I "swim," but like a confused poodle! Obviously, a cruise might not be your style, but you ought to try a 2-3 nighter. Go between Jan. and April, it's the calmest time. Take Bonine; eve if you don't get seasick, it really chills you out. You don't even have to get off the ship if you don't want to or don't like the port. Just try to get into the rhythm of the cruise... Love, Judy ;3

I love oceans. But only the .00000000000000000000000000000000000000001 percent of it at their edges. I can't cross the deeper parts except in planes and even then I have to pretend it's blue jello.

Sounds like you've cruised before! Our favorite is Celebrity. We've been sailing with them for years. The Solstice & the Eclipse are amazing! You can pretty much eat 24/7, but over the years we've learned to pace ourselves. We're hoping to get a deal for Spring Break. We've sailed on Princess, too and their ships are beautiful and the entertainment is great, but the food on Celebrity is a definitely better! No, we've never done Carnival. Guess we're not "fun ship" people. Besides eating and a modest amount of shopping, we love their trivia games! We've collected enough pens, key chains, visors, & t-shirts to stock our own store! Such fun! ;3

At least*
By WilliamKeckler on Dec 29, 2011 at 2:08 PM
Fanks. And if we're on a cruiseliner I feel there should be shuffleboard. An ocean liner is jut not seemly without shuffleboard. And I plan on eating a huge buffet meal at 3 a.m. in the morning. And then making them open the waterslide at 4 a.m. It's least it's not Carnival.

Hi, Bill! You made some interesting points. These sites are kind of like cruise ships. They keep getting bigger and bigger because so many people want to join in the fun. Problem is, some get TOO big, like those new Royal Caribbean ships that are like cities; problem is, like cities. They become impersonal and overwhelming. Hope that doesn't happen here! Have a very Happy New Year! Love, Judy ;3
