Thank you. No, I'm not offended at all. In fact thank you for the expression of caring.

James, I'm so terribly sorry for your recent losses, you and SilentWing are amazing cheezbuds. If this insults you, it's not politically correct, I'm sorry, but I asked for a Novena to be said for you at my church. I'm trying to visit this site often after a long hiatus. Warmest wishes, Smokyzmom

Greetings and salutations, James!!!!I wanted to say thanks to you and Kristen for all your generous gifting of the collys, I'm off work for awhile, and just now seen all the sets you guys completed for me. And that stinker K went and got a job and married when I blinked....hehe......I remember when I'd log on and catch up on things by reading the posts btwn you two, flying thick and fast, now I hope she's enjoying that new hubby of hers and the Goggies at her new job. Gosh don't even know if it's really new or not?!?! Anyways, I still remember the good ol' days when I first met K, and she and I were searching hi and low for the thermometer for MelB....and haven't forgotten both your kindness, even tho the collys aren't being given out anymore, haven't been since 1-15-12. Anyways, gotta go, I get so tired..God bless you and her, keep happy, keep healthy and hug the precious ones each day, appreciate all good things yo have.*Headbonks to all* Always your friend, Lee

Of course you can use my front name. We're friends and that's why my folks gave it to me :-) It's my pleasure to help out with the collys. >Kristen is a good friend and, just a little bit, like a little sister. I look forward to her morning missives as much as I do my coffee (that says a lot). We are from such different places that I enjoy comparing notes with her on the weather and our perceptions of things. I mentioned to her once that I drive over a 1400' mountain pass twice a day. To me it is a minor obstacle, to her it must look like the Himalayas. I visited southern Ohio about 10 years ago. I expected it to be flat as a fritter, and it was fairly featureless until we got south of Chillicothe. From there on I was amazed at how much character there actually was to the landscape. Perceptions. >I suppose you've read about my two little terrorists, Taffy and Red Bob (actually Bob turned out to be a girl...James ain't so good with kitty anatomy). I put up a pic of Bob sitting in my hand and another of them on my desk. Bob seems fascinated by Taffy's tail, I expect because she doesn't have one. My girls aren't entirely happy about this turn of events but they'll adapt. >Take care of yourself, TTYL...waggin' tails back atcha. Oh that reminds me...there was the most beautiful Black Lab x Bloodhound outside the cafe this morning. Big ol' friendly guy...made me smile :-)

Hey there James:). If Kristen can take the liberty of using your Christian name, I believe I can also, since you have shown me such generosity in keeping my collys filled. I love to read the posts between you and SW, it's like having neighbors that you talk to over the back fence, but my health and job don't let me do that. I have to take the time to say thanks, and I loved Lisa's poetry... Warmest of purrs and (softer) headbonks, Lee

I used to work with a very pretty girl, probably 10 or so years younger that me. She would spend all winter in the tanning salon. I saw her about a year ago and she was starting to look leathery. Pleh! I have often wondered what she was doing to her own life expectancy. Sad thing is, she didn't need it. If not for all of the tanning, she would still be young and healthy looking...and pretty. Yes is a pretty unusual group for a 12yo girl to go groupie for. I think he actually lives in Morro Bay doesn't he? I know it's somewhere nearby.

Since I'm not a doctor, I'll give you a web link that may help answer that. http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2010-05-27-melanoma27_st_N.htm What we do for vanity....I was given a free 10 visits to a tanning salon, little did I know the risks, and went, now I wouldn't go if you PAID me. I am also vary familiar with San Luis Obispo, my daughter, at the ripe old age of 12 or so, became obsessed with, of all groups, "Yes" and the lead singer has/had a place down there. Isn't that funny? Lee

Wow! I can see why there would be a high burn-out rate in that field. Particularly if you are specializing in one of the cancers, like melanoma or pancreatic, that has such a poor success rate. My organization, NSGW, donates quite a bit of money to hospitals with cleft palate wings. I think that the doctors, nurses and therapists that work in those wings have an easier time of it since the outcome is rarely disappointing, much less, fatal. If it helps, the rest of us thank God for all of you every day. Funny that you would mention Thousand Oaks; I grew up just north of there. The girl from the tanning salon with the melanoma; Is there a causal relationship there?

One Conehead(?) coming up! I've actually got a fabulous job that I fell into. This reminds me of when SW and I first hooked up to get MelB's thermometer and she asked what I did. Long story short, I work at a university-based teaching institution(I always thought that was funny since it just means a hospital and medical school in one, the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor), Comprehensive Cancer Center(we only deal with oncology patients), Clinical Trials Office(we deal with research studies, sponsored, like Amgen, out there in your neck of the woods, Thousand Oaks, as well as investigator-initiated studies that doctors who work at the University come up with all by themselves),my speciality is skin cancer, Melanoma, the nasty one that's rare but is causing grief strickening pain to the family of a beautiful young girl who works at a tanning salon because it's got a poor prognosis. I've worked in research for 25+ years, but only the last 5 in oncology, because I was always afraid of the high burn-out rate. I compromised when I applied for this position, because although I am an RN and spent the first 20 years in the hospital, dealing directly with patients and getting very close to some of them, now I work as a data manager, one step away from that and simply enter the data the doctors and nurses at the hospitals collect. And it works for me, I revel in the successes along with the docs, but don't take the failures as poorly as I would if I saw them and got to know them like I use to when I worked in non-lethal(?) studies. So I come home to my kitties and get my snuggles in. Wait, did I say long story short? Scratch that, it's too hard for me to do, I'm a blabber mouth, especially when it comes to my job. But I don't type good or fast so it's a problem, my website logs off before I get the post done!! Which this one did. Boy do I have the stories, but I can't tell them due to HIPPA laws unless the "names are changed to protect the innocent" More later, and I enjoy the posts between you and SW, I feel like I'm in the know that way!!!!!! Lee

Good morning, Lee, SW said you were busier'n a one armed paper hanger. Mind if I ask what you do? I have put together a spreadsheet to get my supply and demand organized and it turns out that I do need that Conehead if you still have it. Don't worry about keepin' up with the new ones, SW and I have yer back.

By smokyzmom on Jul 23, 2011 at 4:23 AM

I can't believe how long it's been since I've logged on, maybe it's the weather, maybe it's work. Yesterday my boss said to me "Do you remember what we talked about yesterday?" when I went over a tricky situation we are dealing with. That was a clue, that and a conversation I had with a new contact at GSK that went something like "Duh-duh-duh-duh-duh....." after I went outside for lunch and got too much sun...So, What do you need right now? Just say it, it's yours. I don't even know the names of the new collys, they come up so fast it makes my head spin....and I can't keep up with what I get and from who... Lee

By AnOldCowhand on Jul 21, 2011 at 8:28 AM

Oops, I made a mistake. I do need your Conehead (boy, do I know how to flatter a lady?). Thanks again.

By AnOldCowhand on Jul 21, 2011 at 8:06 AM

Okay, I built a spreadsheet yesterday because my supply and demand situation was becoming too complicated (I'm an engineer without enough work to do :-) It looks like I'm good on WatermelonCats and Coneheads for now after all so go ahead and camp on the ones you have left unless you just want to unload them. I really appreciate the help...all I've ever asked when I've given out collectibles is for generosity to others. Yer good peeps.

By AnOldCowhand on Jul 20, 2011 at 4:57 PM

Thanks Lee. I already have forever homes for them...more homes than I have "them" but I'm just one man :-)

By smokyzmom on Jul 20, 2011 at 4:16 PM

Of course! Any friend of SW is a friend of mine. |I'll do one a day starting with a Watermelon Cat(I didn't even know they LIKED them) Lee

By AnOldCowhand on Jul 20, 2011 at 12:07 PM

Hi MoS, I hate to come around when I want something but would you mind letting go of a Watermelon Cat and/or a Conehead for another one of my peeps? To be honest, I could find forever homes for all of them. If they're spoken for or you don't want to let them go yet, no worries. Thanks.
