it is a magical device (i got it from the potter-universe) that stores memories so you can watch them again and again and so on. the momries exist as long the pensive is intact. you can take the memories out of it and place them back in your head or you can watch them by putting your head into it (looking at the surface works too) or you can experience them by stepping inside the pensive.

"Scared it off, I was always good with illusion spells" says Addie "although my special talent is playing the drums, illusion spells take close second. And as for the thermos and spike, I'll tell you the thermos story first: when I was ten i got a shiny blue wonder bolts thermos and my little brother Dave challenged me to a magic duel for it. He won and I was so angry I cast a spell on the thermos and it destroyed half the town. That was a little over a year ago. The spike I really remember well, but... Well, it's best if I don't tell you that one, I promised Jackie I wouldn't mention it to anyone. Lets just say it involves someone getting something stuck up their plot and leave it at that. Don't judge, we were six. That everything you want to know?"

doc, i think i have a problem...i can see into the future, but everytime that happens i can not remember what i have seen. not even a pensive, an object to store memories, is not able to help me to remember what i have seen.

"Main street, on your right, can't miss it" says Jackie, looking slightly better "they'll put me in the usual ward" she says slightly grimly after finding the hospital, Nurse Redheart approaches you "thank you for bringing Jacqueline to the hospital, her condition is stable and she's expected to make a full recovery, I'm just glad it wasn't another spike incident, THAT was a nightmare, or the thermos incident, poor Lyra, her hair hasn't grown back yet."

"sure, still didn't catch your name though" says Addie and they begin to walk through the forest, after a few minutes they pass a tree in a clearing "oh" she says "i came here without thinking" she has a strange expression on her face, somewhere between sadness and a smile "Koko! Koko! Ko-AAAAAAAAGH!" it's a mare's voice "Jack!" shouts Addie, and runs towards the voice you follow her to a clearing there's a mare lying at the base of a tree, she has a blue mane and coral pink fur, more terrifyingly, she has three claw marks on her side, and they're bleeding like no tomorrow. Addie is in the clearing, staring down a Timberwolf, her horn starts to glow, but before she can complete her spell, the timberwolf bats her away, she looks in bad shape, the timberwolf starts to advance on you

"you're just outside Ponyville" says the mare "and as for the day, i don't remember, but the time is" she takes a pocket watch out of one of the pockets on her black vest "three fifty eight, does that help? my name is Addie, what's yours?" she has several ear piercings, and a lip piercing that's a tad distracting "if you need to get back to Ponyville, i can help, i know this forest like the back of my hoof"
