Happy New Year what a lovely picture
By Sugarcatsmom on Feb 2, 2015 at 4:45 PM
Im a tough old broad. Tiger is helping me type. This new storm had snow, rain, ice then back to snow. What a mess the roads are. Seems like they didnt care thiss time. Exactly a week apart the same 30 hours/ Yuk. Its winding down now but thetemps are plunging. Big piles of ice with slughy frozen streets. I need to get stock in rock salt. Hope you had a good dinner and visit with your daddy. You are so lucky to have him. Lost my gransmother, dad and mom all within three years. My daughter and I are all thats left except for an 87 year old aunt with no short term memory and her 94 year old husband. Everyone else died or moved away. Moving away to a warmer place sounds good.

Wow...it seems like you got him a few months ago...how time flies! Oh dear...more weather crap for you? I noticed yesterday that all our snow had finally melted except for the huge piles everywhere. I woke up this morning to a new inch of snow and it was still snowing. We're at 2" now...still comin' down but s'posed to taper off this afternoon. I hope so...I'm heading out of town to my Daddy's for dinner. At the very least I hope the highway is plowed and sanded. It's certainly nothing like a noreaster...just a reminder that winter is not done...and is awlsew yuk, like yoo sed. ;) Say it wif me nao..." I AM A TUFF OLD BROAD!!! :D

I got Tiger two years ago March 27. His owner was ill and couldnt keep him. Tiger was 6 at the time. He and Rocky are best buddies. We are getting another nor'easter starting at midnight going through Monday night. High winds too. If we get the ice we will get about 6 inches more if no icing 12-14. We are all parked in cubbies now. Winter yuk.

I certainly will!! Yours is an excellent idea too.and for those of us ladies who can't afford a fall in the winter I recommend a cane with pokey things on the bottom...not because you need it but because it can prevent a nasty fall. Hey how is your new big baby Tiger doing?! Such a gorgeous boy!! You really take putting on an extra cat in the winter, seriously dontcha?!

Thank Mama Walker for me for the good advice. I have carried a large container of Kosher salt and that works too. We have non-clumping kitty litter
By violetD on Jan 28, 2015 at 4:56 PM
A little help from mamawalker in relation to walking in, or getting stuck in, snow. Gud adbice!! By mamawalker on Jan 28, 2015 at 4:10 PM EDd ur msg to sugarcatsmom! Make sure to tell her to keep a bag of clay litter in there, too!! Non-clumping for sure...in fact the cheaper the better. It's great for getting traction after your tires have already burned a ice slick into the snow. In fact, when it's really icy out and I have to walk somewhere, I have a baggie of it in my purse to scatter in from of me like bird seed. And voila...no slipping with the attendant broken hip!!

Oh dear! It was like that here. I went to pick up the grandkids from school two days after our blizzard and the snow had been piled in the street parking which is all parents have. School parking off limits. A couple of us had shovels so parents were able to dig some out but it was 2 feet, that had started to melt and then froze. I wonder why they didn't put it in dump trucks and get it out of there...but i don't know the science of snow removal. ;) If your roads are still bad keep a shovel in the car with you! You'll be glad you did. :D I hope it's over for you too!!
By Sugarcatsmom on Jan 28, 2015 at 2:56 PM
There is no place to put the snow. I was just telling Sylvia the main roads are good but when i got to work (daughter had day off and drove me) there was no on street parkiong and the roads were terrible. I m dreading the walking in to work i will have to do. My street is bad we are still parking on the grass that will get icy after a while. I hope this is all we get this winter. North Carolina looks pretty good now. Thanks to you both for hanging in here with me.

Good for you for staying indoors. Daughter sounds like a hardy lass!!! Good for her! I just LOVE young'uns that help out their Parents!! She's an adult right? What a wonderful young woman! We had a blizzard with a sudden dump of 2 feet of snow the beginning of January, and that shut our city right down for two days and roads were still sketchy after that. SO much snow and nowhere to put it. I think you've got one more snow day at least...has it even stopped snowing yet? The PTB are so smart to put driving bans in place. It risks the lives of emergency personnel who aren;t safe to be out either. Hunker down and have a nice cuppa coffee or tea or a good stiff drink and enjoy the time off. You deserve it! You're such a tough old broad. ;)
By Sugarcatsmom on Jan 27, 2015 at 1:23 PM
Oh hai Daughter shoveled for two hours. Now we can open the back door to feed the birds and go out the main door to the cars parked in the yard so they can plow. She couldnt shovel in front of the cars because the wind gusts were to bad I may be home another day.
By Sugarcatsmom on Jan 27, 2015 at 10:22 AM
Hi Violet it is a nasty one/ We are in the way of two storms colliding quite often. This one snuck up on us. Brave daughter hasnt gone out yet. I can hear the birds out back but the snow is way up hig in the small deck to the back door. Cant open door until its shoveled.Neither one of us is driving today they still have driving bands so we cant if we wanted to. Everything is closed. Twelve more hours. I had ordered fuel oil two days before so i have plenty of that. If i could get up and get dressed id be doing something. Rather just play on PC and try to forget what is going on. She suited up and is going out. Im going to keep an eye on her. Lubs to you

I am watching your blizzard right now on the news. It's very bad...not safe at all...you already have a few feet of snow in many areas with higher drifts in others. Oddly enough tho...you only have about 90 customers without power right now which is amazing for a storm of this magnitude. I sure hope you are one of the people with power. I hope you're happy to have a couple of snow days and that you have provisions, candles or flashlight and batteries, and some kinda warms!! I can totes relate to your dislike of snow.We gotta be tough old broads but we don;t want to be stupid. Older ladies what has hip and spinal ishooz shud wok bery careful in da snow!! I'm so happy you have your brave girl close!! Make sure to tell her that if she absolutely HAS to drive anywhere to make sure she packs shovels, garden and snow, in case she needs to dig herself out! In that much snow it's purractically a given!! Lubs and hugs to ya Darlin'...it will be over soon!
By Sugarcatsmom on Jan 25, 2015 at 7:41 AM
Hi Violet yes we have been cold. We have had three icy storms close together and Monday afternoon through Tuesday night we are getting a blizzard 12-18 for us. Winds 60 mph. With my leg still hurting from falling on black ice last week I dont want to hear this. I havent left the house all weekend. Lucky my daughter is brave. I was brave until I had my third hip surgery two years ago. That kind of soured me on snow. I used to like snow now I am a wimp. I keep remembering what you said about being a tough old broad and i can do this.
By violetD on Jan 23, 2015 at 8:30 PM
Just getting back to this...hope the weather improved... your current forecast looks quite close to what we've been having. 4C during the day and 0 ish at night. I'm quite happy with anything above freezing these days. :D I keep telling myself Spring will be here before I know it. Take care Darlin'!!
By Sugarcatsmom on Jan 3, 2015 at 4:22 PM
Thanks for the chuckle. I must be a tough old broad if I can stand the crazy weather we have and go to work everyday. You have a great New Year also.
By violetD on Jan 3, 2015 at 10:16 AM
Yes, you're right...a large group of friends does make it seem inevitable sometimes. WOW that IS crazy weather!! I saw the cold snap comin' in your forecast...let's hope it doesn't last long and a warmer system is right on it's tail! I wish you a very Happy New Year my love!! Bundle up when you need to and keep tellin' yourself "I'm a tough old broad...I can do this!" ;) That's how I get it done. :D lubs'n'bonks Sweetiepie!!

So sad to hear about Pollyme2. With such a large group of friends unfortunately its going to happen. Wish I had been here then. Thanks for letting me know. Crazy weather here. We are going to get light snow and icey rain tonight then tomorrow its going to be 60 and all rain then back to the deep freeze with a high of 11 mid week. My New Year wish is for everyone to be happy, safe and warm.

OH WOW!! It is SO wonderful to hear from you!!! Long time!! I've really missed you Sandy!! I hope your babies and strays are well and you are happy and healthy!! Just getting ready too go out of town for dinner with Daddy but I hope you're finding your way around again!! I don't know if you heard yet but our dear sweet Pollyme2 passed away about a month ago. :( I'm happy you're toughin' it out and I pray for a break from the cold for you...we are back in a deep freeze this week but it should end soon. It's hardest on the strays but I put out extra meat and kibbles to keep their tummies full and continue dumping out the huge ice chunk and refilling the water dish. ;) OOH gotta go but I love you! Stay strong!! Winter will be over soon!! It's already Jan 1 2015 and who saw that comin'? :D

Violet I do remember Savannah very well. I am glad she is doing well and her father is sharing. It's not the same but must be comforting to know she's happy. So happy about your daughter adopting. People like you with such big loving hearts to share with children should never have them broken. Your fishing buddy grandson must be about 16 or 17. We can retire after 62. The longer I work the better the social security and Hospital retirement. 66 is what most people I know are aiming for but 70 gives the max. Ill be 65 in October and will go from there. We can collect social security and work. I think when it gets to be to much I'll call it quits. This winter had me thinking. One day the parking lot (long walk) was quite icy as the storm as still going on I used the valet. They told me last year its there for everyone. My hip is staying in place but I have a lot of pain in the evening. Two surgeries and two dislocations caused tissue damage. I still do housework, yard work and even shovel when my daughter isint looking. If I feel I can handle it and its safe I shovel if not she shovels. She wants to move to North Carolina when I retire. I love living here when we aren't having a blizzard or a nor'easter. I'll miss my island. She said "as my only living relative I want you with me". That's sweet and doesn't say much for her dear old dad who lives in Florida. Like you and your daughter we are very close and I know we are both very blessed for that.

Hi Sweetiepie!! Well you sure made western Canada look warm but the east took hit after snowy, icy hit. SO glad my family settled in the west. ;) We had a couple of nasty cold snaps but were otherwise unseasonably warm. Oh Darlin' I'm sorry your winters are so harsh...but that's probably why you're so tough! 43 years?! Good for you!!! Do you get retirement with pension at 65 in the states? It likely still wouldn't be as much as a job with benefits. The family has been great! Did I tell you my daughter has finally, successfully adopted siblings, boy and girl? 2 years later they are legally our family and nothing can change that! They are the best and we are SO blessed!! Do you remember Savannah, who Jenn was adopting, and was with us for two years before her birth father came forward and got custody? Now that Jenn's adoption is final, the birth father is comfortable sharing pictures!!! Savannah is okay!!! She looks happy, taller and has many friends and that's more than I thought I would ever know. Kids sure are amazingly resilient!! Thank God! How about your family and all your kitties? Is everyone healthy? Is your hip staying in place? Did the nasty neighbor move? ;)You are always in my prayers and I also pray you will get warmer drier weather soon! Take care!!

Hi Violet I've been thinking of you all winter. I think we made Canada look warm. Storm after storm. Enough. Had two shovels out. One broke and the third metal edged one is in the shed that we can't get to. Im still working full time ( 43 years).Yes I should be committed. I would love to retire but I like the paycheck and the benefits. How have you and your family been. Missed you.
