It's funny you should say that. I always told the ballet skeptics that it was great exercise. My favorite question to them was "What would you rather lift over your head? A cold bar of iron, or a beautiful, athletic young woman?"

By cassiebrunner on Sep 11, 2008 at 10:25 AM

Yeah, but how many men can say that they get to touch beautiful women in odd places as much as they want to, and their wives don't mind? I happen to think that you are one of the smart ones. :D I'm sure your wife enjoys the fact that you are limber and strong, too. That's always good for a marriage, you know. As for anyone who would question your hobby - they just don't know. More dans-dans-dans for you, right? :D :D :D

Most of my co-workers are cool with the theatre stuff, and come see the shows. A lot of us IT-types are musicains, actors, etc. The touchstone of their tolerance is when I reveal that I also take ballet classes. Male ballet dancers (even married-with-children superannuated amateurs like me) are very stigmatized in American culture.

I LOVE VOLTAIRE! I didn't say anything about him because it's so cliche, but I also love Baudelaire. Mmmmmm. Anyway, I wish I could see you dans-dans-dans. What do your co-workers think of your theatrical abilities? (Or do they know?) ;)

One of my favorites is Lord Evelyn Oakleigh in "Anything Goes". That's what the picture is from. Another is Maximillian from "Candide", and I also loved doing Albert Peterson in "Bye, Bye Birdie". And I dance The Mouse King (aka Maus Koenig) in "The Nutcracker" every Christmas. Hence my ICHC name.

I love theatre and dramatics, I just despise melodrama. In fact, I played Guinevere in my college's production of Camelot my freshman year. I sing operatically, and I do it well, so I was actually MADE to try out. The musical director sent her minions after me to drag me to auditions even though I didn't really want to. That experience made me fall in love with theatre. :D I love music theatre, and satyre. One of my favorite plays is Tartuffe, though not played nearly enough for my taste. Everyone wants to see REnT. pleh. Not bad, but too mainstream. I still dance, but only in my living room. (hardwood floors) :D What's the best role you ever played?

Interesting. My name is Thomas, but that did not come into play when I created "TheMaus" as a profile: someone had stolen "Maus" and I had to figure out another handle. But perhaps there was something in the back of my mind working when I chose that. I'm not a Lit person, per se, but I do read voraciously. My IRL profession is "Senior Systems Architect". I design and guide the construction of complex computer applications and systems. As for Drama, my avocation is musical theatre and dance. The "Send You..." LOL on my profile is from a show I did last year.

TheMaus - eu +o = Thomas Clever. :D I'm a linguistics student as well, so I pay attention to little things like word makeup. So I WAS correct, right? If you spelled the word Mouse correctly, then you couldn't have added the "a" to the end of your name. SO, I guessed that this was the other reason for the spelling, other than the obvious reasons of lolspeak. :D You are obviously an intelligent person, and I love a good puzzle, so thanks for being fun to talk to. Are you a lit. person? You must read, because you knew Art Spiegelman. What's your "dayjob"? I'm a student, but I used to give medication to the elderly. That was the best job ever. Then I did my time in management, but that blew. Drama. I hate drama. Wow. Sorry. I just wrote you a book. I have a tendency to do that. (Writer) *backs away sheepishly*

Sorry Cassie, I'm not Aussie. Favorite book of all time? That's a tough one! "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" by Robert Heinlein is "Top 3". So is "The Mote in God's Eye" by Niven & Pournelle. I'll have to think on this...

By TheMaus on Sep 8, 2008 at 3:33 PM

Hi Cassie! I know of the Maus graphic novels (except *mumblemumble* years ago, they were "underground comix"), but have not read them, except for a few excerpts. The German spelling of my handle is partially influenced by those, and also by another thing. You have to guess the another thing...

By cassiebrunner on Sep 5, 2008 at 10:38 AM

Haz U read Maus I & II by Art Spiegelman? Gud stuffz. It haz all kinds of Maus in it. :D
