Red, it is certainly acting weirder than usual, if not actually borked. It has eaten a couple of my posts for no no apparent reason, and the comment count is really low, so there must be something not-good going on.

Linksys and Belkin are the best brands to get. I prefer Linksys, mostly because it's the same company (Cisco) that makes the "big boy" stuff we use in our corporate networks. You want to get a wireless "g" router. The Linksys WRT54GL is good. I used one at home until we got Fios. The Linksys WMP54G is a good internal adapter for your PC, or the Linksys WPC54G for your laptop. You will probably spend $80 for the router and $50 for the adapter. Sometimes they are bundled for as low as $100. Keep a close eye on the sales at your local electronics stores, especially this time of year. You may be able to save 30% or more. I hope this helps. Let me know if I have totally overwhelmed you with information...

Howdy Minion. I'd be glad to help, so I have some questions. Do you want to use the 2nd PC in another room, or the same room as your current connection? If it's in the same room, all you need is a "switch", aka "hub", and a Cat 5 Ethernet cable long enough to go from your (I'm assuming) cable/DSL modem to the 2nd PC. If you want to use the PC in another room, you will need a wireless router that also has several wired ports. You want this kind so you can connect the 1st PC without having to buy a wireless adapter for it too. Does the 2nd PC have a wireless network card (many laptops come with one)? If not, you will also need an *internal* wireless adapter for a PC, or a wireless PC Card for the laptop. Don't get a USB adapter: they don't perform as well. You will need a special cable to connect the router to your cable/DSL modem. Sometimes it comes with the router, sometimes not, so check the "included equipment" list on the box, or ask someone at the store. More follows...

Hey Maus! Can I exploit your geekiness for a minute? We only have one internet connection in the house and want to hook up a second computer. I know I probably need a wireless router, but is there a certain kind of wr I need? Also, what else needs to be purchased? I use mom's computer at home and, for the sake of peace in the house, need to hook up mine! HALP!
