Ten adoptions is very cool. I love the fact that there were two adults in that mix. Those of us who are somewhat past our maximum cuteness need love too. You've got lots of time to ramp up. When I ran my half marathon I made the decision in August and ran it at the end of October. I'd had a good consistent base of just over five miles a day for a number of months prior to making the decision though. As I recall I made the dailies just a tad longer but started designating my Saturday run as my "long run" for the week. I never went beyond eleven miles in my training but had no trouble on race day. In fact, I still had plenty in the tank at the end of the race and could have easily done a couple more. Those days are behind me though now. I'm still kinda surprised that I did it because I never considered myself a "runner". In truth you had to time me with a calendar for the race so I never really achieved runner status anyway. LOL

Good morning, BD. How are you and the lovely Miss Becky? Back from my shift at the adoption center, and we had TEN adoptions last week!!! That is fantastic for us; mostly kittens, but two adults also. Two empty cubbies this morning, but I am sure they will be filled by next week. Started training for the half marathon. So far, so good, although the early training is very easy peasy.... it gets harder starting with week 5....

Eight adoptions is awesome. Eight happy homes and happy kittehs. I can understand the desire to bring a bunch home with you. They're all so cute, I'm sure. If Becky had her way we'd do beach trips every day that ends in Y. They are fun but they do take a bit of effort. I've let the back lawn go California brown as a result of the drought. Now I wish I hadn't. Becky walks so gingerly on those blades of grass now. I can tell it's not comfortable for her paws. She's still very content to flop down in the middle of it and chew her ball though.

Good afternoon BD; how are you and the lovely Miss Becky this fine day? Any more beach outings lined up? Back from my shift at the adoption center this morning. We had eight, yes eight adoptions last week!! That is great for us. Even with that, all the cubbies were full again this morning when I arrived. We have some adorable kitten siblings right now; if I could I would take four of them home with me, two siamese mix, and two all black. All of them are the sweetest little females.....

That's three kitteh lives changed forever...not a bad thing at all. Rock n Roll Marathons are always festive events. you should go for it. You've got plenty of time to ramp up your mileage a bit. You wouldn't have to get up to 13 before the event. The adrenaline and excitement would carry you through if you were doing ten or so with any regularity. Heck, you could probably do it now but there's no guarantee how happy you might be the next day....satisfied but sore.

Ah, adoptions this last week - we had three adoptions; not great but not bad either. We try to average at least three per week. Thinking about entering the rock n roll 1/2 marathon here in SA in December with some of my girlfriends. Not sure I want to put in the time for training. It's about 13 miles and our walks are only 7 miles......

Most people would have preferred it to be warmer and sunnier but it was perfect for Becky and me. Becky always has a grand time at the beach. I wish I could provide it for her more frequently. How were the adoptions this week?
By catmom on Jul 15, 2015 at 7:26 AM
Yea! You and Miss Becky got your beach day.... looks like the weather was nice, not too hot.
By beckysdad on Jul 11, 2015 at 6:27 AM
The Spurs sign Aldridge and West too. You guys are going to be damned tough this season (as usual). I would think polishing the silver would keep the hands busy while watching your cooking shows. The polishing won't be terribly fun but at least your mind will be occupied with other things. I saw an article on USA Today Online yesterday that reports the expectation for a major El Nino event for California this winter. That would cause some flooding problems but would bring lots and lots of water. I hope it happens...the water...not the flooding...

Good morning, BD. I had forgotten George Blanda was occasionally in the mix. They played some great games, with some being real nail biters. So sorry your rain prospects are still so slim. Chore day today - polishing all the silver on display in the dining room (a messy tedious chore I have been puting off, but can't wait any longer as most of it is black with tarnish, *sigh*). Also making up a couple of dry rubs for the pantry that I have used up. And hopping on the treadmill and watching my cooking shows, of course. Do you have any big plans for the weekend? Oh, and the Spurs will have the big three - Duncan, Parker, and Genobli back for next season as well as scoring some great draft picks! Definitely looking for another championship next season.
By beckysdad on Jul 10, 2015 at 8:00 AM
Stabler, Lamonica and even Blanda would sometimes step in to take snaps. Hank Stram and the Chiefs...Len Dawson, Buck Buchanan, Otis Taylor, Willie Lanier... Those games were events. Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised find that we don't get rain again until October. It's grim.

Yes, he had a reputation as a partier :-) And I agree, I would have expected liver problems.... I remember when he and Daryl LaMonica used to trade off the position, and the big rivalry was Kansas City vs. Oakland; those were the good old glory days!! Glad to hear you're having a cool snap. Any rain in sight to help ease the drought?
By beckysdad on Jul 10, 2015 at 4:36 AM
Yeah, I saw that he was diagnosed in February...quick and yet not quick. Quick in as much as just a few months from when nothing is on your radar to leaving this earth. Months can seem incredibly long when you're battling something like that though. He was a hell of a QB and had quite the reputation as a partier. You'd think something liver related might have been more likely. The treadmill is better than nothing but it's so much nicer to be able to venture outside for your walks. We're blessed with a cool snap right now so our dawn walks are like about sixty degrees...heaven. Alas, still no beach day today. We'll get there though. If Becky knew I was considering it she'd be pestering me all day every day until we got in the car.

He died of complications of stage four colon cancer, according to ESPN.

Goodmorning, BD. How are you and the lovely Miss Becky this morning? Wow, what a shock about the Snake....Gonna go look for some more info on his cause of death. Unfortunately I am relegated to the treadmill now until we get some cooler temps, most likely end of September. Is today a beach day?

The garlic chicken was way yummy...in fact I'm eating some right now for lunch. It's even better 24 hours later. Your salmon is certainly healthier than my chicken. I still haven't decided on a date for the beach. I'll probably get a wild hair on the dawn walk one morning and decide that's the day. Are you able to get out and walk right now or are you relegated to the treadmill...shudder. Brubby and sissy together in a new forever home...I like it.
By catmom on Jul 9, 2015 at 8:20 AM
Good morning, BD. How was the garlic chicken? Sounds yummy..... Have you decided when you're taking Becky to the beach? I did fresh, wild King salmon on the grill over the fourth. I believe the two kittens went to the same forever home together. They are siblings and have bonded with eachother, so that was a good placement.

We did survive the fireworks but we sure weren't happy about it. They were louder and longer than ever before. I just hate seeing Becky upset. I owe her a trip to Carmel but we didn't go today. It's looking like it will get pushed off until next week. Did the brother and sister kittehs go to the same home or are they striking out on their own. I suppose either situation has it's pluses and minuses. Did you cook anything festive over the 4th? The highlight of my cooking week was ribeye's with sauteed mushrooms and onions...talk about yum! We're going to be very bad tomorrow night. I'm fixing garlic chicken for the folks tomorrow night. None of us need to have any contact with the public on Thursday so it's a great opportunity. That's a self-imposed requirement for garlic chicken. The okay from the cardiologist is optional.

Good morning BD, hope you and Miss Becky survived the holiday and the holiday noise. I had company for the weekend and Kibby and Chessie survived the noise factor as well as can be expected. We stayed home with them so there was minimal noise trauma. Are you and the lovely Miss Becky headed for the Carmel coast today? We had two adoptions last week, a cute brother and sister kitten pair. Now there are two more cute kittens in their cubbie just waiting to find their furever homes!
By beckysdad on Jul 1, 2015 at 9:18 PM
Becky doesn't necessarily want me for herself; she just wants to make sure nobody else gets me. I'm going to wait until after the holiday to take Becky to Carmel. I suspect it will be a zoo this week between the holiday and the heat. I think you're pretty much ready to be done with all the rain, aren't you?
By catmom on Jul 1, 2015 at 3:41 PM
So Miss Becky prefers to be the center of her Dad's attention,eh? :-) When is she getting her outing to the beach? No, the rain is still here. We had a downpour today that came with some very blustery winds.
By beckysdad on Jul 1, 2015 at 12:25 PM
Becky enjoys the occasional puppy playdate but she's meant to be an only dog. She'd adapt to another dog and did well with the other two but I think old dad can only handle one at a time. Is your rain gone?
By catmom on Jul 1, 2015 at 9:45 AM
Now that the doggy visitors have returned home, are you and Miss Becky feeling lonely, or just happy to be back to normal?
