Bearby says "Thanks!" for your compliments, and so do I. :) I imagine you can spot a good match when you see it. Sometimes you have to stand back from a situation to fully understand it. I love those two photos, by the way (the Babe Magnet bulldog and the pup with the cigar chew toy.) I dunno who took those but they're awfully cute. XD

And ALL animals are kid magnets! And the more they Don't like kids - the MORE kids like them!!!! LOL! T

Bearby is absolutely a beautiful dog! I'm so glad u adopted him - and I'm sure he is too! Maybe that adoption counselor knew something u didn't - sometimes I can just see a perfect fit when I'm adopting a foster to someone! And other times... I can see thru a person and see the shit on their insides and I send them home alone! Bearby is so lucky to have you!

Wow, you're maybe the most epic animal lover I've ever talked to, and my oldest friend is a Sea World junior keeper with more pets than is decent for any one person. That's amazing, how you saved Angel. I think maybe "angel" is the other way around. And that picture of Bearby apparently makes him look kinda funny 'cause he's an Australian Shepherd mix. XD We think the other half might be Shiba Inu but it's just a guess. I didn't bottle feed him or anything, but he's a pound puppy. He had been in the shelter for months and was about moments from being put down (our shelter is no-kill now, mercifully.) The adoption counselor all but pushed him on us. It was like "THISISTHEBESTDOGEVERPLEASETAKEHIM!" She was right, too. Never known a dog as sweet and eager to please. Best friend I ever had. That almost 10 years ago, he's 12 now.

But Angel is a fighter and she pulled thru! Now she is a fine healthy cat with a (very) MEAN streak! Everyone let her get away with MURDER because we were always afraid she would die - so she thinks she is entitled to do ANYTHING she wants to! And it has spoiled her and made her a BRAT! I don't know if I look like anyone in particular... I'll put some pictures of me on my Pics so u can get a closer look! T

BEARBY IS A BEAUTIFUL BOY! Is he a Husky or Malamute? My kitty in my picture is ANgel. She's a rescue. I got her the day her umbilical cord dropped off - about 24-36 hours old. I bottle fed her. A water meter reader found her with a dead mommy cat and a dead litter of baybeez. She was the only survivor (looked like the mom got hit by a car but made it back to her babies before she died) and she was MAD AS HELL!!! She was crawling around all over her dead mommy and the other kittens (also dead) trying to find a nipple that still had milk in it. She was also starting to get quite a few fire ants on her (drawn to the dead cats) and they were stinging her. She almost died several times - first from starvation & dehydration, then a high fever from the fire ants stings, THEN from the venom in the stings.

I've got a MILLION stories about aninmals! And, yes, they are ALL LONG and detailed, and ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ T

Then I moved and went to work at a vet clinic as a receptionist for 3 yr. then went to work part time n a pet store as the pet caretaker - expert advise person (never had to figure out how 2 euth a rat tho). After 2 yrs there I went back to work full time at another vet as a vet assist. THEN, got sick & had to quit working. Volunteered at PetsMart adoption center for 6 (or is it 8?) years. Also did Rescue/Foster/Adoption since 1990 freelance. Started off SMALL scale when I went to work for the first vet and wound up adopting out over 200 animals out of my home over the past 16-17 years. Just one or two at a time..... mostly baybeez I find or that someone dumps off at (or near) my home.

I used to be in the "animal business"...I started as an office manager at a labarotory and took over the animal caretaker's job bcause I did NOT like the way he handled the animals! P.S. - we did not experiment on them - we used rabbits and goats for antibody production for test kits. My bunnies were extremely well loved and cared for - we even set up an adoption program for them when they were retired! Me and the production lab manager adopted most of them!

PS. Here's something I learned the hard way: when you have a lot to say and a character limit (I wish ICHC had a character counter!) just copy your text before you post. Then you can take off the chunk that already posted and post the rest without having to retype.

...a jar with no air holes. It fell asleep and never woke up, having suffocated in its own carbon dioxide. If I had to off a small animal, I think that's what I'd do. I hope never to have to, though. Teh goggie I made my avatar is my dog, Bearby (long for Bear.) Who is the super-precious kitteh in your photo? And has anyone ever told you that you look like Catherine O'Hara? It might just be the tininess of the photo...

OMG, that was a heck of a story! I'm so glad Abraham was OK and that you chose to make him a pet. He lived to be older than the oldest I ever had (she was 4 when she died.) I've only ever heard of one rat that lived longer than yours. I think you dealt with some pretty inexpert experts, though. I remember seeing a prominent reptile expert on Animal Planet one time who said fortified ground turkey was by far the best diet for domestic reptiles, for their own health. If I recollect correctly, this guy was a profession reptile handler, breeder, and wrangler. And that woman who told you to let Abraham freeze to death deserves a night naked in the snow. I recently read an article in a local publication (http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2008/aug/20/cover/) that explained how terminally ill people wishing to die painlessly often choose to cover their head with a plastic bag filled with an inert gas, such as helium. My mom once needed to kill a wild young mouse humanely. She simply put it in

Thank you for the Super Cool picture of the Super Cool Dog on your profile! Anyone you know?

By everyonesxwife on Sep 3, 2008 at 9:48 PM

He made a full recovery - although his balls and the tips of his ears fell off from frost bite! I named him Abraham and he was the sweetest rat in the world! I spent the next 5 years making it up to him by giving him a five-star life as a house pet! I even bought him a brother, Zeke (A to Z..... D'oh) He became best buds with EVERYONE in my home except for Attilla and Spaz (our homicidal lovebird). The night that he died (from old age - promise!) he slept on my chest in bed with me so that he would not die alone. NOW DO YOU LIKE ME???? I'm laughing out loud right now remembering how my husband laughed at me when I was blubbering hyterically and blow drying this little half-frozen rat! AND, YES, All my stories are this long! T

By everyonesxwife on Sep 3, 2008 at 9:42 PM

Okay... if you insist! The vet insisted that Attilla needed the fur, the meat, the bones, etc. to be healthy. So I went and bought her a rat. I had the lady at the pet store put him in the box and I did not look. She told me that the most humane way to kill him would be to put him in the freezer overnight. Die from hypothermia, just get cold, go to sleep, and die peacefully. So when I got home I put the box in the freezer. The next morning when I opened the box - fully expecting to see a little "died-peacefully-in-his-sleep" rat - I found a fluffed up, fiercely shivering rat with big brown eyes. He had been in the freezer over 6 hours. So... either his god LOVED him, or my god had it in for me! I took him out of the box and began rubbing him briskly with a hand towel, then moved into the bathroom and began blowing warm air on him from the blow dryer.

OMG! The last half of my story disappeared! And I worked so hard on it! I promise I will finish it! - just not right now.... not again tonight - sorry T

By everyonesxwife on Sep 3, 2008 at 9:29 PM

Oh yes! It's a TERRIble story! Let me start by stating that (WITHOUT EXCEPTION) I love all animals! Then, let me continue on with my horrible story.... (you'll see this one coming...) someone gave me a 3 ft. Nile Monitor (see where it's going?) and the vet told me to feed him.... yes - mice & rats. Hate me yet? (we tried canned monitor food but she did not eat enough) So, my husband fed her for the first several months, mostly pinky rats. Attilla (the monitor - not the husband) was swift and deadly on the pinkies and I was (sorta) satisfied that they did not suffer. As she grew, her meals grew. The vet said to upgrade to adult rats. The first one I bought, my husband fed to her while I was inside. She stalked him and tortured him - it was worse than gut-churning - before she ate him. I swore we would not do that anymore - ever - but then she got really sick from the less-than-proper diet of raw hamburger and raw chicken with vitamins in it. The vet insisted that she needed
