Make that 16 days now. More freezing rain and sleet came early this morning, and things are worse than they were yesterday. We have to make up the first five days that are missed (already built into our calendar--just get out earlier if we don't use them). After that a school may use bank time to make up days. Bank time is earned daily for all hours of instruction beyond what the state requires. We have nearly two hours a day more than is required, so we rack up a lot of bank time (doesn't carry over from one school year to another). Our missed days are covered, but we are finding it very hard to deal with keeping on track to be finished at the end of the year because we are used to having that extra time. We are going to be giving the high stakes writing test whenever we go back, and it has been a real struggle to cover all the material and get in practice papers as well as covering literature for the reading test in May. We must cover American lit. from the start to the present time, so we can't wait until the writing is finished to get started with lit. We've missed so much that we really haven't been able to establish any rhythm either. Even the kids are tired of snow and ice. The weather pattern has shown no signs of shifting though, so Thursday may be the start of spring on the calendar, but nature hasn't gotten the word yet.
