Yes, it's sad :( The town of Darrowby is actually a fictional name, the town their veterinary surgery was in was a town called "Thirsk". Thirsk is on the outskirts of a large town called Darlington and I live about 25 miles away from Darlington. I would love to visit Skeldale House some day :) James Herriot was indeed a pen name, his real name was James Alfred Wight.

Sara, it's a sad thing. Mai hubbie looked 'em up online an found out Segfried had killed himself! I always thought that guy was bipolar, manic depressive or something. He was so intense. I often wondered if he really knew he had told someone something oppisit and different than he had the day before. Now, I don't think so. He did marry. Tristin is still living, but I believe James Harriot (that is his pen name) has died also. I got to see his beloved Helen on film clips on PBS. He, himself was very like the character. Even down to all the clumsiness and how would you say it, coincidental disasters! I thank God for the beauty and the wonderful stories James handed us!!!They all live on.

Sara, PBS had a mini series made in England about a WW2 bomb difusing team. It was Called UBC. It was so good we worked our schedule around it to watch it. We have never done that for any show. All Creatures Great and Small was another quite long running series about James Herriot, a Yorkshire vet. Wonderful series, still available on DVD. I bought two of them so far. Glad to hear from you. Blessings!
