hmmm, i think cadfael might be ellis peters? elizabeth peters does an egyptian/archeology series with Amelia Peabody, as well as some others. definitely worth checking out!
By PrincessOfChaos on Jun 1, 2009 at 8:17 PM
I love Elizabeth Peters! The Caedfal series is absolutely awesome!!! I have read every one of them. If you like fantasy adventure that is a little dark, try Laurell Hamilton. I love her Anita Blake series!! They're another series I devour in a single gulp!! They are sexy, sometimes even deserving of the name erotica, but the point is always the adventure.

thanks princess! I've read about a third of those authors, so we might have similar tastes. If you're ever looking for an author, I like elizabeth peters too...

A log time ago you wanted some author recommendations. Here are a couple: P.D. James (smooth as silk! I just discovered her) Mary Higgins Clark, Earle Staley Gardner (Perry Mason, oldies but goodies!), Lisa Scottoline (she's my favourite! I grab her books sight unseen!), Kathy Reichs (the TV series Bones is based on her books), J.D. Robb (I can't put her books down. I HAVE to finish them in one gulp! very exciting and great characters), Sue Grafton (alphabetical series e.g. H is for Homicide), Ed McBain, Ian Rankin, Colin Dexter (Inspector Morse), Kay Hooper, Rita Mae Brown (series has smart kittehs in it!!). That should keep you going for a while!!! *giggle*

well if it's a source of happiness then i'll definitely consider trying it! why not, u only live once?
By PrincessOfChaos on May 24, 2009 at 9:10 AM
Oh, yes!!! For me it definitely is worth it! Even if you don't publish it is definitely worth it! I send mine to selected friends. Their enjoyment and comments are wonderful! I got a lot of joy from writing it, and even though it was more work than I imagined, I now get a tremendous amount of joy in sharing my work with others.
By silver22 on May 23, 2009 at 11:28 PM
what a process! and is all the hard work worth it in the end?
By PrincessOfChaos on May 23, 2009 at 7:39 PM
As long as it takes. It took me a long time because there were two plot lines and each of them could almost stand on its own. I couldn't figure out which one was the most major one. I finally had to try to write each of them as if they were the only plot line. Then I saw plainly which one wasn't. Then I had to weave the minor one in around the major one. *sigh* I think that as I get more experienced it won't take so long. This was the first one. I learned a lot from it and can do it faster now. I'm in the middle of a second one now.
By silver22 on May 23, 2009 at 4:16 PM
wow, sounds like a tremendous amount of work, how long does it take to write a novel?
By PrincessOfChaos on May 23, 2009 at 4:09 PM
Absolutely! You have it a bit easier since you already know the shape of the story, since you've immersed yourself in 5 seasons of the show. That is like the skeleton of the story. Now you start layering the muscles over it; that's the action. Then you add the details which are like the organs and the skin, some essential and some just for looks. :-D

While Alice went to the door to greet the grandkids... Smorky's going to have a loooong weekend I think! *giggle*
By silver22 on May 23, 2009 at 4:03 PM
ah, sooo that's the secret. get all the exciting ideas out, like an outline, and then go back and fill in the description for the reader...
By PrincessOfChaos on May 23, 2009 at 4:00 PM
Yes, it needs a certain amount of detail but you can skip to the action as you're writing and then when you're finished the book, you can go back and put in the detail. It's better that way , because then you know exactly where you need the detail and how much detail you need. I lost track of the number of times I went over my manuscript, tightening here, adding detail there, etc.
By silver22 on May 23, 2009 at 3:25 PM
i tried writing a mystery novel once, but it takes so much patience! i always wanted to skip over the detail and get right to the action but books need that detail...
By PrincessOfChaos on May 23, 2009 at 2:39 PM
Sry. I had to go do the laundry. *pleh* You should try writing an episode. You could have a blast!
By silver22 on May 23, 2009 at 1:25 PM
i totally could! the episodes tend to have such similar plot lines that i can practically guess what's going to happen. it's because i like to have tv on while i do mindless work and it has to be entertaining, but not too entertaining.
By PrincessOfChaos on May 23, 2009 at 12:40 PM
5 seasons!!! You could probably write a pretty good script for the show now! Maybe you should write a story of Murder She Wrote, just for fun.
By silver22 on May 23, 2009 at 12:35 PM
yup, my hubby doesn't share mai late night ways, so i too have to be quiet -so it's loling, reading, or lately, watching netflix with headphones on. i've made my way through 5 seasons of murder she wrote. :)

time zones do. However, when I'd spent a lot of time at the hospital with Kitteh Daddy in the ER, not only was my sleep schedule completely shot, but I was too stressed to sleep. SO what're ya gonna do at 2 or 3 or 4 inna morning that's relatively quite? Play in Cheezland!!! Boomboom! Ain't it great to be cray-zee? Boomboom! Ain't it great to be cray-zee? Silly and Foolish all day long! Boomboom! Ain't it great to be cray-zee?
By silver22 on May 23, 2009 at 11:53 AM
and also lolers have the strangest sleep schedules. i can come on at any time -3pm or 3am- and see peeps (although admittedly time zones help!).
By PrincessOfChaos on May 23, 2009 at 11:22 AM
Yes, I can well understand that!! That's a long time to be in the house. Well, you've come to the right place; you don't HAVE to be stir crazy to have fun here, but it helps! *giggle* Ain't it great to be cray-zee? Boomboom! Ain't it great to be cray-zee? Boomboom! (repeat infinitely....!)
By silver22 on May 23, 2009 at 11:18 AM
it's maybe a cold and it's maybe the flu (although hopefully not swine flu!). I'm over the worst of it, but am just keeping myself away from others to be safe from spreading it. I haven't left the house since Tuesday and am going a little stir crazy!
By PrincessOfChaos on May 23, 2009 at 11:08 AM
Well, that's sisters for you! *giggle* Is it a cold you have?
By silver22 on May 23, 2009 at 11:02 AM
i'm mostly worried about getting the bride sick, i'd never hear the end of it! 50 yrs from now she'd be like, remember the time...
By PrincessOfChaos on May 23, 2009 at 11:00 AM
I EDed on your note to Hedda so I see that you are sick. What's up with that? I hope it's not bad; you don't want to miss the wedding!
By silver22 on May 23, 2009 at 10:57 AM
summer vacation! one of the perks of being a grad student. which means as much fiction as my little heart desires. :)
By PrincessOfChaos on May 23, 2009 at 4:44 AM
Ohhai! Can I get back to you later today about this? There are a bunch but I'm not sure how to spell some of them... *blush* I'll give you a list later today. What are you supposed to be studying instead of loling? *G*
