Last week, the Manhattan Transit Authority shared 36 photos showing the progress made to the tunnels that are being created as part of the East Side Access project. Built between 2006 and 2011 by a 22-foot-wide excavator, these tunnels will allow the Long Island Railroad to reach Grand Central Station for the first time. They are expected to be operational in 2019, doing 162,000 passenger trips to and from Grand Central per day.
