Look at the bright side: six innings in, still not losing. Oh look, they may even score. Maybe. *** (By cataff on Oct 27, 2018 at 6:52 PM * That was downright painful, but at least LA has managed not to lose in straight games--suspect last night will be their only win.)

18 innings...mon Dieu. Life and death to get one win. *** (By cataff on Oct 26, 2018 at 5:32 PM * They may get vacuumed too. Ha! Boston is on a roll.)

Like gum on your shoe you can't get off. *** (By cataff on Oct 23, 2018 at 6:30 PM * If I were the Dodgers, I would have traded Puig five years ago. HIs moments when he plays up to his potential just don't make up for his mistakes. I hope Kershaw can keep the ship righted and the team can get more runs for him. It would be a very good thing if LA could take the first game, but Boston has a very good team. I hope your LOL won't be true at all for the entire Series, but we both know that won't be the case.)

"Great Dodger in the sky" (nod to Tommy Lasorda) forgive me, when Kershaw came in to finish I held my breath. Glad he had it easy, no threat to his ability to start game one. Will he win? Will the Dodgers win or at least avoid being swept? I'm with you. When the Sox won a Series or two after a winless (nearly) century, their fans became insufferably arrogant. Unbelievable. Thanks for the compliment. *** (By cataff on Oct 21, 2018 at 6:23 PM * I was still following the Dodgers but not expecting them to win. The Brewers just didn't cut it. I honestly don't think there is an NL team that can beat Boston, as much as it hurts me to say so. I detest Boston, but they have a great team this year. We'll see if LA can keep from losing in straight games.I have read that Plimpton article, and that is an excellent LOL!)

Ohai c. Have you given up on the Dodgers or still watching? They've surprised me, even if they don't win another game. Did you read this Plimpton SI article in 1985? (Later a book) https://cheezburger.com/9227565312

Or tell stories, especially in a blowout. *** (By cataff on Oct 7, 2018 at 9:43 PM * No, I don't recall Scully ever doing that either. It makes no sense to stress the score that remains the same other than to show irritation with the team that gave up the grand slam. No matter how the team played, Scully was always a big fan and found something positive to focus on.)

This has bothered me for years, and I heard an example of it tonight: https://cheezburger.com/9222970112 Vin Scully never did that, if memory serves.

Correct, Dodgers will bow out quickly. I did think the Cubs had a slightly better season. *** (By cataff on Oct 3, 2018 at 1:13 PM * I didn't expect much from the Cubs or LA. The latter team keeps bragging about how it has won the NL West so many times. It's such a weak division that I wouldn't brag about winning it myself. I know there have been lots of medical problems for LA this season, but they haven't played well either. Now that will really show.)

The Cubs slid their way to an early exit...startling and sad. I don't expect much from the Dodgers either.

Thank you and you're welcome. I'm not a Cubs fan but I know Ron Santo is a beloved figure. *** ( By cataff on May 25, 2018 at 6:09 PM * I remember that Pat Hughes loved to tell the story of the burned hairpiece and the fact that Al Leiter was the pitcher. I think the cat is a nice touch. I can't think about Santo without still being angry that he wasn't voted into the HOF until after his death. He belonged there long before he received the needed votes. Thanks for sharing your excellent creation.)

That's a good question. Must be his winning smile and engaging personality. ;-) *** (By cataff on May 2, 2018 at 8:18 PM *; Baker is such an idiot that he may actually show up. If he does, I hope the fans boo him out of Wrigley. I will never understand why one team after another kept making him their manager when it was obvious that he was a horrible manger. Even now San Francisco has made him a special adviser, although I am mystified as to what useful advice he can give. Even those guys whose arms and careers he ruined have nothing bad to say about him. Life is full of mysteries.)

On the Cubs broadcast they mentioned that Sunday 06 May is the 20th anniversary of Kerry Wood's twenty strikeout game. Woods may be at Sunday's game...I wonder if Dusty Baker will be there. (Yes, that's sarcasm.)
