You're welcome. There must be others as well.

True. There's got to be someplace without that requirement, and there's got to be a way to tap into private offerings rather than the formal rental sites. "Local" sites like Nextdoor or Craigslist, or even better if you could cultivate contacts in some of these places. How to do so is beyond me, you probably know someone who knows how. *** (By psom on Jul 12, 2018 at 3:38 PM * Well, an awful lot of people have "invaded" California over the years, so I guess it's only fair. I could use a more simple life style right about now that's for sure! I tried Oregon, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona & New Mexico, besides some of the more rural places in California. Most of the rents are around $500 for a one bdrm. apt., but they usually want your income to equal 3x the rent, which mine doesn't....sigh.)

thanks so much for grats...now Wallaby my bossy feline wants mine for real.

Well, you can get into silly comparisons. In L.A., a middle-class home in a good (not spectacular) area might be in the $2M range; in the midwest you might get a slighly larger home on a slightly larger lot for under $100K, maybe much less. Obviously, a similar ratio should hold for rent, I haven't checked. You'd have to get used to a very different lifestyle, of course. I wonder what Idaho is like, it's one of the states Californians are invading, er moving to.

"It's even harder when you don't drive!" Oh darn I forgot. It would be hard for you to live in a sparsely populated area.

I'm not on Facebook so if that is required, we'll figure out some other way for me to help you.
By katkabob on Jul 11, 2018 at 2:42 PM
I want to help. Can you send me a link to that funding account?

It's rough to move now, but I think you have to be ready to move anywhere in the country. Personally, I'd even move to Alaska if the opportunities were still what they were 20-30 years ago. (aidunfinkso) Good luck. *** (By psom on Jul 11, 2018 at 1:57 PM * Spent the better part of last year looking for some place to move in the western states, then the money ran out....Youcaring, the crowd fudnign site I've been using had me sign up for Facebook and I've gotten a lot of help and support and ideas from there as well as here, but still no job and no luck. And of course they just raised my rent. I have to be two years older to qualify for most other benefits.)
