I may not be the biggest Among Us player, but I totally get the appeal. If you've somehow managed to avoid hearing about it, Among Us is basically a space-age version of Mafia (or Werewolf, or, let's be real, The Thing), where a bunch of adorable little astronauts run around fixing their spaceship while an imposter lurks among them, trying to pick them off one by one. Players have to figure out who the imposter is and eject them into the void before it's too late. It's chaotic, it's hilarious, and it became an absolute phenomenon.
Back in 2022, Among Us VR took that chaos into first-person virtual reality, making the experience even more immersive (and terrifying). But now, two years later, that version of the game is making the jump back to traditional screens—no headset required. That's right, Among Us VR is officially rebranding as Among Us 3D, and soon, players will be able to play it on PC without needing a VR headset.
The new flatscreen version will keep the same first-person perspective, bringing Among Us into full 3D for non-VR players while still supporting crossplay with VR users. That means whether you're playing in virtual reality or on a regular monitor, you'll be running through the same hallways, completing tasks, and (hopefully) not getting ejected for looking too sus.
While there's no confirmed release date for the flatscreen version just yet, the developers at Schell Games and Innersloth have announced some exciting updates. Among Us 3D will introduce a new in-game currency called Stardust, expanding customization options and supporting ongoing updates. Players can also look forward to new game modes, additional tasks, fresh collaborations, and even more wardrobe items to dress up their little space beans.
Meanwhile, the original 2D version of Among Us is also getting a big update in 2025, featuring four new roles, matchmaking improvements, and security upgrades. Plus, there's still the Among Us animated TV series in the works, with more news expected soon.
If you want to try it out early, a demo will be available during Steam Next Fest from February 23 to March 1.
