Hero Cat Who Alerted Owner That The Slow Cooker Was Burning

In the middle of the night, cat owner Scott White was awoken in the early hours of Sunday to his cat purring and pacing about the room. Then the rescue cat, named Joey, even stood on his chest to get his undivided attention. 

Luckily, Mr White was able to recognize something was wrong with the way Joey was acting and went into the kitchen to find the entire room filled with smoke! The smoke coming from a slow cooker he had set hours ago. 

Mr White told CBC, "We went to bed around midnight and it was fine," White said of the Crock-Pot. "And then it wasn't fine when Joey found it."

    Meet Joey! Joey was adopted from a rescue group in Toronto about 2.5 years ago. Originally came from a shelter in Quebec where cats are euthanized. Turns out, Joey isn't the only animal in the White household.

    White also has a 10-month-old guard dog who slept through the entire indicent. "I guess we found out the real hero is the cat," White said. Rightfully so, Joey got some extra love the following day.

    Text - keje 19 hours ago I had a hero cat too. I left a frying pan on the stove and thought I had turned it off but had only turned it down. My cat sat at the entrance of the kitchen looking at me and then looking at the burning pan. This went on for a few minutes before I realized something was wrong.     Text - C 19 hours ago My two black cats many years ago saved my life. I had fallen asleep after a long day at work. I had been cooking some dinner when I went to lay down for a couple of minutes. Next thing I knew, it was 2 hours later and my cats were on top of me, screaming their little lungs out. The house was full of smoke. From killing pests during the black death to lowering our blood pressure through purrs and cuddles, cats have saved countless humans. My neighbor's cat also work them up in the middle of the night to tell them the basement was on fire.
