How is it that Lil Nas X has sharper comedic timing while playing four different characters in a two-minute clip than most crappy massive-budget Hollywood comedies that come out these days? The young rapper can simply do no wrong, even when he's simultaneously committing heresy and copyright infringement. If you have no idea what we're talking about, let's bring you up to speed. In March, Lil Nas X launched a highly controversial pair of 'Satan Shoes' adorned with pentagrams and human blood. The shoes looked a whole lot like Nike's Air Max 97s, which caused the footwear behemoth to file a copyright infringement lawsuit against the bold rapper. On top of the legal dispute, religious zealots unsurprisingly showed up with their pitchforks. None of this discouraged Lil Nas X. In fact, he responded by trolling his haters with a fake 'apology video' that ends in the rapper seducing, killing and taking the place of the devil. On March 27, Lil Nas X tweeted, 'I spent my entire teenage years hating myself because of the sh*t y'all preached would happen to me because I was gay. So I hope u are mad, stay mad, feel the same anger you teach us to have towards ourselves.'
All of this puts Lil Nas X's latest antics into context—a satirical video promoting his new Kanye-produced single 'Industry Baby.' In the brilliant video, Lil Nas X plays himself, his attorney, the prosecutor and the judge.
Since the video was posted, fans have overwhelmingly applauded Lil Nas X's unparalleled marketing instincts. From 'Old Town Road' to his bizarre and demonic Nike spinoffs—the guy has a knack for breaking the internet. We can't wait to see where the 22-year-old artist takes us next.
