Why is it that the lead woman in the romantic comedy always leaves a good guy behind for the bad guy that usually destroys her career or general sense of self? Perhaps society celebrates these unstable characters too much. Sure we all love Tom Hanks, but he had nothing to offer Meg Ryan in the movie You've Got Mail. "Greg Kinnear is better looking, cares about small businesses and admires her work and literally didn't take away Meg's livelihood." But the heart wants what it wants. There is just something about the bad boys that makes us leave all rational behind. If only couples therapy was free.
