Twitter Thread: The Importance Of Adopting The Unconventional Cats

Picture this: you're at the animal shelter, trying to pick out a new pet cat to adopt and love forever, and you immediately spot a cute and very photogenic kitten. It's so easy to just pick the very first cat that seems perfectly health, right? Now, as cat owners, our first reaction to any  cat  is "adopt it, love it, such a cutie pie!!!" But... what about the poor souls that no one wants to adopt? Welp, in Twitter user @elle_em's case, the cats that no one wants to adopt are the most important ones to take in, if you can of course. 

Elle took to twitter, and of course, and what is twitter going to do other than chime in with their own opinions? It seems that the kitties that no one wants, the old, sick, or otherwise abandoned ones, are the ones who need our love the most, and who can be very loving in teir own wats. All that we know is that every cat seems much more happy in life after finding their furever homes. And also, if this kitty just chose a human for themselves, who are we to argue?

    What would you say in response to this opinion? Personally, here at I Can Has Cheezburger we 100% support this sentiment. If you can do this, then please consider adopting a lesser-wanted cat, they can be such sweethearts and 100% worth it for you as well!

    Handwriting - Elle Em @ellle em Consider the cats with one eye. Or no eyes. With missing legs or tails. Cats who can't see or hear. Cats that need medical care. Cats that might be a bit of a project.

    We're always happy to see little guys like the ones who are missing a leg or an eye getting the love that they deserve.  We hope that, if you have one of these cats, he or she is as happy as can be.

    Smile - Elle Em @elle em ... Consider older cats. Cats that may only live a few years. Consider the sort of cat that doesn't often get featured on The Dodo and similar content aggregators.

    Water - Elle Em @ellle em If you can give a cat a few good years after a lifetime of illness; if you can be there at the end, and know it's just as important as being there in the beginning. If you can, consider making sure a cat doesn't die alone

    Cat - Elle Em ... @elle em Just. If you can. Consider a cat that people don't usually consider. Please. Umbreon was one of those cats and I'm so happy I had her in my life for six years. It's never enough for us, but it's more than everything for them.

    Cat - Harvey got a bit overlooked in the shelter as he was quite shy, the 2¾ years he was with us were the best and he came out of his shell a lot

And yeah, sometimes they die sooner than we want, but for the time they're with us, we make sure their lives are *better* at the very least.

Not sure how old she is (maybe 7-10) but she's darling and an absolute dork. She keeps me laughing and makes sure l'm not dead l'd I fall asleep during the day watching TV. LOL

    Cat - Kelsey @kelserah Replying to @elle_em When I picked him up his face was half shaved and covered in stitches, and all his litter mates were either killed by calicivirus or adopted because they kept their eyes. Spent all of my limited college student savings on his surgeries, he's worth every penny and more
