Nah, those cats deserve to feel comfortable in their home. Simple as that.

Font - My brother and sister in law are currently visiting me and my fiancé. We have 2 cats, one very fluffy and one shorthaired. Fluffy is very shy, she had some trauma and dislikes anyone that's not her people. She is also very curious.

    Poor lil fluffy booboo.

Font - The guest room my brother and sister in law are staying in I usually keep the door closed, so fluffy can't go in there. When she saw the door was open, she went in to investigate, and when they went back upstairs to go to bed she got scared, ran out, and scared them(she's dark colored so kind of blends in with the shadows).

Font - I thought it would be fine and could be laughed off but in the morning my sister in law said that she wanted me to keep the cats confined so they couldn't go in the room or be near the door, she said that fluffy was sitting outside the door when she opened it to go to the bathroom and scared her again. She said I should keep the cats in a separate part of the house so they wouldn't go near the room.

Take a hike, Karen. There are plenty of hotels with open space.

Font - I told her I would try my best to keep them away but no promises and that I couldn't just shove her in a different room, but she could just close the guest bedroom door and they would stay out. She said it wasn't a big ask and I'm being unreasonable. I don't think it's that bad. ΑΙΤΑ?

Font - [deleted] · 12 days ago NTA. Animals are living beings that need their routine and stability, especially if they are anxious. When they visit your house, they agree to live with your animals for the duration of the stay. Keeping a door closed isn't that hard. Treating your animal in a way that stresses it when the solution is so easy is unnecessary and cruel. 4.1k Reply Share

Font - Otherwise_Window · 12 days ago Professor Emeritass [91] NTA. The cats live there. She doesn't. Closing a for is not an unreasonable request. If she doesn't like it she can stay in a hotel. 1.3k W Reply Share •• •

Font - Sleepy_felines · 12 days ago Pooperintendant [62] NTA. It's your cats' home. Your SIL is visiting- she can't make demands about where the cats can go! She's welcome to stay in a hotel if she really can't cope with a fluffy cat.

Font - NinjaTali93 · 12 days ago Solid NTA. I've had a similar situation occur with my flatmates guest and my verdict was simple - it's the cats house too so if you don't like it don't stay here. The cat doesn't deserve to be locked in a single room for the duration of their stay for their convenience. Punish the humans not the animals.

Font - del901 · 12 days ago Colo-rectal Surgeon [43] If your SIL was visiting for a couple of hours, this *might* be seen as a not unreasonable request. But she is an overnight visitor in the cat's home. If she doesn't want the cats in the room she is staying in, she can close the door. Or move to a hotel. NTA
