Twitter Thread: Ultra Rare Blue Lobster Sighting In Portland Maine
The crustaceans are a bright blue due to a genetic abnormality that causes them to produce more of a certain protein than others of their species. An expert from Oxford University's zoology department said the chance of catching a blue lobster is estimated at about one in two million. We turned to the lobster experts to learn a little more about the odds of coming across a blue lobster, and we discovered that there are even rarer colored lobsters out there as well, such as yellow and white (albino).
"About one out of every two million lobsters may come up in a trap colored blue. Your chances of finding a yellow lobster are even less; a yellow lobster is only seen once in 30 million lobsters. However, the rarest lobster is a white lobster. The chance of seeing a white lobster is only one in 100 million. There are even lobsters that are two different colors, one on each half of their bodies." Who knew!

"Lobster's nervous system is quite sophisticated. Contrary to claims made by seafood sellers, lobsters do feel pain, and they suffer immensely when they are cut, broiled, or boiled alive. Red or Blue, please return them to live their life."

"Over here in WA we get 'electric blue' marron as well. They are a rare mutation that is being cultivated now in marron farms. Marron are only found (natively) in a small part of the south-west of Western Australia."
