2022 was a big year for goblins, and people who always feel like goblins. In fact, "goblin mode" was bestowed with the honor of being Oxford Dictionary's word of the year.
According to Know Your Meme, goblin mode is " a slang term initially used to describe a person or animal acting feral or the cowgirl sex position which later achieved more literal association with goblin-like, chaotically evil behavior." That is probably due to the fact that the term first gained popularity in connection with a Photoshopped headline regarding Julia Fox and Kanye West's breakup.
Oxford Dictionary's definition is a little more in tune with the rest of the internet, and describes it as "a behaviour that is unapologetically self-indulgent, lazy, slovenly, or greedy, typically in a way that rejects social norms or expectations."
Whichever definition you choose to embrace, acting like a goblin is something that people (especially internet users) have been doing for a long time. So here's to goblins and the memes the influence.
