When a cat does something bad, it stares you down and has no shame in their wrongdoing. It's not that the cat doesn't realize that they are in trouble, they simply don't give a darn. Dogs on the other hand, know exactly when they've done something bad and they're completely transparent in their expressions. If a dog thinks he can get away with it, they give you the most bombtastic side eye, darting back and fourth and hoping their hoomans don't notice the potted plant on its side in the living room. With dirt all over their paws, you can track the paw prints back to the scene of the crime– Fido, we know what you did.

But then the moment the hooman looks at the dog with dismay, they explode with shame and apologetic tail wiggles.
