‘Good riddance’: Passengers get kicked off flight after they falsely claim they left a bag with medicine behind and significantly delay take-off

Do you remember the last episode of Friends, when Rachel is on the plane to Paris when she leaves Ross the message and suddenly realizes she has to get off the plane?

I have always wondered how one even manages to convince an entire staff of a plane on the verge of taking off to let them simply get off, just like that. Even if I had such a dramatic love realization like the one Rachel has, I honestly do not think I would have the courage to stop a whole plane from taking off. I probably would have flown to Paris and then turned back and hopped on another flight to New York just so I could avoid that confrontation.
