Tiny newborn baby rabbit's are actually called a kit. The female rabbit is called a doe and the male rabbit is called a buck, similar to deer. A large group of rabbits is called a herd.
Rabbits usually live up to 8 years, but if they are spayed/neutered they can actually live up to 10-12 years!
Rabbits are shown in the Chinese Zodiac. They represent graciousness, kindness, sensitivity, compassion, tenderness, and elegance.
Even though rabbits aren't the loudest animals, they do communicate vocally by humming. So if you hear a low humming while a rabbit is running around you, that's their way of voicing their affection for you.
Rabbits love and need the company of other rabbits. And if they are kept as pets, they often don't do well because they are missing the social interaction they need in order to be healthy.
Rabbits are herbivores, so they eat only grasses and other plants.
Rabbits have nearly 360° panoramic vision, which allows them to see everything that is coming up behind them, making it easier for them to get away from predators. So sneaking up on them is not an option!
They can be very territorial and often live in organized groups. Their underground tunnels have a lot of different entrances and exits in and out to ensure their safety from predators. (mini village like?)
Some people think that rabbits are easy because all you need is a hutch and some food, but they do require more attention than this.
Rabbits love a change in scenery. Their underground tunnels are always changing, and this is one thing that may cause distress when kept as a pet. You have to keep their environment stimulating for them.
If you have a happy rabbit, you may have seen them do something called a 'pinky'. This is when they jump in the air, twist and then spin around.
Rabbits are very good at being trained using rewards. There are even rabbits who have been trained to go to the bathroom in a litter box.
Rabbits have very strong hind legs. They are able to jump over 3 feet high and over 9 feet in distance.
